Re: Need a rod for a new-2-me reel.
I’d suggest the 6’11M poison Adrena on sale & that would put it right around your $300 budget. It’ll be a great match with the steez, they also have a 7’2M. I’d skip the Expride with it being so close to the Adrena in price, I like the Adrena lineup about as much as my nrx rods
Re: Need a rod for a new-2-me reel.
If I could only have one $300 rod I’d probably get a Megabass Orochi in F4.5 or F5 power.

Can you point me to one (6'11"MF) on sale? Most places are out, and those that still have one are asking full price. Although I would like one NOW, it really isn't necessary.Hennessy wrote: ↑Mon Jul 27, 2020 6:47 pmI’d suggest the 6’11M poison Adrena on sale & that would put it right around your $300 budget. It's not how much you make ... it's how you use itnew2BC4bass wrote: ↑Mon Jul 27, 2020 7:28 pmI would be a true TackleTour poster if I could just make a $100,000 more per year.

I picked mine up during Black Friday at TW @ 20% off, that model is in stock now which is rare due to their popularity. I’ll tell you that the Adrena is worth full price, a nrx definitely not. If it’s not necessary now, just save $10 for about 5 weeks, now your limit becomes $350, lol. Always selling old rods to fund new ones help also. The Expride is a good rod, the Adrena is a great rod. If you get that Adrena, I’m pretty sure you want be wanting to upgrade it anytime soon. The Steez is a great reel, needs a great rodnew2BC4bass wrote: ↑Mon Jul 27, 2020 7:25 pmCan you point me to one (6'11"MF) on sale? I have the money. Problem is I've never spent more than $175 for a rod. Spending twice that is kind of mind boggling to me right now. Took quite awhile before I was willing to spend $200 on a reel.Hennessy wrote: ↑Mon Jul 27, 2020 10:46 pmI picked mine up during Black Friday at TW @ 20% off, that model is in stock now which is rare due to their popularity. It was asked what do I want to use the reel for. When I got into baitcasting, versatility was what I looked for in a rod. This reel listed for $600 new. It has Hedgehog dress up parts, I-Power Knobs and an I'ZE factory Steez SV105 spool. From what I could find the spool cost over $150. So without a doubt the most expensive reel I own. I don't want to limit it to one or two techniques. I want as versatile of a rod as I can get so I can use it a lot. I baby my gear to keep it as nice as when I got it.

It sounds like a reel that you'll want to use all the time. So I'd either put it on a very technique-specific rod for the technique you do all the time (i.e. you love jigging and do it whenever possible), or on a super universal rod if you don't focus on one technique much.
If you have the money, I'd suggest investing that extra little bit to experience a true quantum leap to the gear you're used to. Don't buy a $270 rod if you already got a bunch of $180 rods. That new rod will be better, but not expressively so, and you'll be left wondering what else is out there (so next up you need to buy a $400 rod, just to be sure And in effect you've spent $700 in total). You don't have to go out and buy a Conquest, but I'd bite the bullet and make that step into the $300-400 range. Poison Adrena, Megabass Orochi, Ark Reinforcer, etc. Possibly a GLX on sale somewhere (not easy to find, but I managed to snatch up two of those at $270 each).
Having that kind of high-end rod will anchor your expectations for both ends of the spectrum much better.

For 300 it'd probably look most at home on a swingfire

^ This. The adrena is where it's at. The 1611M+ and 172M both excellent/versatile/sensitive rods and well worth the $ in my opinion.Hennessy wrote: ↑Mon Jul 27, 2020 6:47 pmI’d suggest the 6’11M poison Adrena on sale & that would put it right around your $300 budget. Are the Orochi xx rods any good? I only have a 1st gen and an xXx and they are great.
