G. Loomis GLX 782C MBR for jerkbaits

Post by PBP » Tue Aug 04, 2020 9:09 am

Looking to add another jerk bait rod, can someone provide any input\real experience with this model?
Reading the handle length on 842 might be a bit longer compared to the "old clasic" models, is this also the case with 6.6 models 782 as well?
Thank you.

I use the GLX 842c for jerkbaits and love it.

Not sure if the handle is longer from the old model, it is however about a 1.5" longer then a 852 NRX casting handle
if that helps any.

Thanks,
I have nrx 843, I think it has the same handle as nrx 842, it gives me good idea on what to expect.

An new 783c has +/- 1" more handle then an old Wibe seat 782c. I can't give an exact measurement due to having changed the butt cap on my 782c, but I think it was around 1.25".

Thanks,
I think 782 is what will work the best for me, I found the old seats measurments and 6.6 models are 1.5" shorter than 7ft, so even if a new ones a tad longer, should be just fine.

My old school 782 was perfect for small to medium jerkbaits in my hand. 842 and 843 not as good for that application but far better when a stiffer tip is needed

Will 782 glx work for megabass 110 1/2 oz? I may go to 3/8 oneten junior from time to time.
I am using Zodias Medium 6.10 right now and it is about perfect for me. Just want another jerkbait rod and have one of them as occasional topwater for small pop x poppers.
My Nrx 843 seem a bit too powerful for my liking working the same lures and I prefer shorte rods for these presentations.

since I fish florida almost always now have not thrown a jerkbait in 5 years. BUT, my old memory says that 782 starts to top out at 3/8oz. Once the bait is in the water, the difference in weight makes no difference as you know but on the cast if the new 782 is like the old you may feel the rod slightly overloaded.

Are the 782\783 glx models a bit softer\lighter in power compared to 842\843? Some people say they are.
Or they just shorter versions?
I cant find a place to hold these 782\783 rods in my hands.

I can't say a word about a 2020 loomis glx. In 2010, the 782 was a beast of another color totally. The 842, 843, and 783 all fish similar to me. I felt the 842 was only a shade less powerful then the 843. In fact, one trip I felt the hook up % with the 843 better then that of the 842.

The 782 by comparison was pure jerkbait, moving bait and topwater in my hand. I fished a light jig on it one trip and missed more fish then I can recall but never used it for bottom bouncers again;;;; just way too slow but put a popR, sammy or pointer on that btch and she is great.

The 782 rear grips are shorter than the 3 power rear grips. The 782 is great for what you want to do. It's very light and balanced, and just the right length. I have that exact rod and use it for JB and small swimbaits.

Haven't tried the newer model but with the old gen 782 it may be a little underpowered for 110s if you prefer to work the baits aggressively. Fun rod but was a little soft in my experience.

782 will work fine for 110’s but for around the same money (if you shop right) I would get the new Megabass P5 OneTen P4 6-5. I personally love the 6-5 length of my Steez 6-5ML Fle-X lite for jerks, way better than my GLX 783 but the 783 is the back up jerk rod and works fine for them

I have Japanese market oneten orochi XXX and hate this short trigger real seat. The P5 has similar one from what I know and that's a deal breaker for me.
