Anyone use this rod for dropshot/finesse shakyhead? Can get a good deal on one, and cant find a lot of info on it.

I had the 901S briefly and it was too light for these apps but I think you could do it with the 902. They are sweet rods and fast action in a Loomis nrx?! yes please. Go after it!

Went and got it. It's a sweet rod for sure! Perfect for what I wanted it for. Have a stradic ci4 1000 on it but am going to get a bigger reel. Maybe the new Vanford 2500 or 3k

I use a NRX 901s for drop shot and it works fantastic, 1/4oz tungsten drop shot is so sensitive.
Never tried it with shakeyhead.

If I didn't have a Megabass Flyssa I would get a 902s

I am a 902S fanatic! The NRX 901 & 902 are the 2 best rods loomis has ever made and the best 7'6" spinning rods in the fishing industry!

So

901S i find is best suited for hair jigs, micro finesse jigs, finesse swimbaits 1/16 & 1/8, spybaits, light bottom contact. Ned, neko, flickshake

If you plan to use this for drop shotting, i feel it works best in areas with light weeds or open water over rocks. I use it for long distance casting drop shots ranging from 1/8th to 1/4. I prefer the 901 over 902 for times when i need to implement subtle actions by twitching tip lightly.

This will work best with lightwire hooks and open water.

Then there's the 902S

The 902S is the bigger brother that can handle heavier techniques, fish in heavier cover, and sets the hook better in deeper water. I use it primarily for finesse swimbaits 2 to 4 inches long and weights 1/16 all the way up to 3/8 oz.

It works better for shakey heads for better hook penetration in deeper water or if the hook is rigged weedless. The deepest ive dropshot with 902 is 45ft and it was perfect.

You cant go wrong with either rod but the 902 is a masterpiece any finesse or smallmouth fishermen should have it!
