Thanks for your input. I've heard good things about the cashion rods!scrapiron wrote: ↑Wed Jul 13, 2022 3:10 amLots of great setups posted so far. Right now I have:
1. Cashion Icon MedLight 7’ w/Luvias LT 3000. For finesse (Ned’s, drop shot, etc.).
2. Cashion Icon Med 7’ w/Vanford 3000. For small cranks, bigger Ned rigs, shakey heads, etc..
3. Sitting in the rack: a CNQ 842s w/Stella FJ 2500. Wondering where this will go and/or replace one of the above.
Really have been enjoying the Icons, though not a fan of the Vanford. Use these for fresh and inshore. Don’t “need” three spinning setups with overlap and like to keep number of rods on boat to a minimum.
Wife has a St.Croix Tidemaster MedLight with a Stradic FL 3000 and though a little heavy, just an awesome combo… a lil old school but it’s just easy and comfortable. However she’s leaning into the Cashions lately.

Re: What’s your spinning setup to have ready?
<tangent> The Cashion factory is about an hour away from me. We went to an all day seminar they hosted a few months ago (inshore focused) and it was very good. Had four or five guides talk as well as having a factory tour. They also served some amazing BBQ (one of his team leads cooked) and pies. We were very impressed with Matt C. and his team. Oh, and just crazy crazy good doughnuts in the am. LOL, you'd think it was all about food! The seminars were informative as well as listening to Matt walk through the process of building rods soup to nuts. </tangent>
However, the knock on their rods is the finishing/detail. I had to go through five of the same rods at Bass Pro before I found one without any 'major' flaws. The blanks are great- the Icons are a step above the previous line, Elite.

Re: What’s your spinning setup to have ready?
I have 4 setups but these 2 cover most everything for me. Phenix K2 713 ML with a Daiwa Luvias Airity 3000S-CHX. It is perfect for light drop shot fishing. So much so that it knocked my NRX DSR out of rotation. The second is a Daiwa Steez 7'6" MML (1st generation) paired with a Daiwa 2018 Exist 2500. It's very versatile and handles Ned rigs, Senkos, tubes, heavier drop shots, smaller Teaxis rigged plastics, and smaller treble hook moving baits.

Mine is my Flyssa with ‘18 Exist 2500LT XH. Had the Addermine but preferred the extra length and lighter action of the Flyssa. Tried the Addermine, two different purchases but just didn’t work for my style.

Re: What’s your spinning setup to have ready?
I got two-three ready for the boat and bank, and one for the kayak.
Boat/Bank:
Blue Steez 761MML with Stella FJ 2500
Red Steez 761MML with Stella FK 2500
NRX822 DSR with Exsence A 3000
That pretty much covers all bases, although I wish for a perfect Ned rod (when it's a traditional, super light Ned rig). I like the blue Steez better for dropshot and tiny swimbaits and the red one better for tubes. I throw a lot of tubs on casting gear too, NRX852 or K2 713, cutting down on the number of spinning rods
For the Kayak, I just take a MB Orochi XX Shakyhead and it does everything I want to do with spinning gear well and has surprising sensitivity. Abu Garcia MGX 2000 on that one works well.
Occasionally I'll add a MB Triza F2-Loproz for light stuff (including those Neds) even when I'm not travelling. It's a killer light-line weightless fluke rod.

Wow, a lot of the Steez 76MML (both gens) rods on this list.
Had a gen 1, loved it then I didn't. That's the only rod (knock on wood) that got destroyed during shipping. Ugh. Maybe I should look at the gen2.....

What I was really wanting to know is what spinning rod techniques do you always have tied on. And if you want, share what rods you use for those techniques.
7'2" cork crucial drop shot rod 3000 sahara FD reel

Re: What’s your spinning setup to have ready?
I have a bunch of 872 and 822 DSRs for smallmouth fishing. I also have a 902 and 901 for swimbaits and hair jigs.
Re: What’s your spinning setup to have ready?
I typically run 2 spinning outfits for bass, a medium and a medium-light. Current setups are: Daiwa Kage 7'0" m/f with a ballistic mq 2500 for weedless dropshot, shakey head and neko rigs. Shimano Expride 6'10" ml/f with a jdm stradic fl c2500s as an all-purpose finesse setup dropshot, splitshot, neds etc. Believe it or not the Kage replaced an NRX 852s which I found overly stiff. Very satisified with them but if I had to pick upgrades I'd probably go with Daiwa steez ags rods and luvias reels.
Re: What’s your spinning setup to have ready?
I don't have an NRX852 as spinning, so I can't directly compare. But AFAIK the C and S rods share the same blank, so I'd expect the 852S to feel the same as the C.clemsondds wrote: ↑Fri Jul 15, 2022 7:43 amWould love to try the 852c...heard good things. Comparing the 852C to the 822S is a bit difficult because one is a JWR and the other is a DSR. The DSR is softer/slower by design because it only needs to drag a part of the rig's weight across the bottom (the DS weight but not the worm), and dropshotting typically uses thin-gauge hooks so the rod doesn't need a ton of tip power to drive hooks home. Meanwhile the JWR needs to drag the entire bait across the bottom (jig, tube, whatever) and typically needs to drive a thicker hook. So the 852 feels stouter, faster and more powerful than the 822 as a result, and G Loomis actually rates the 822 as a ML while the 852 is rated as a Medium (even though both have a 2 rating.)
So the 852 might be a bit less sensitive simply because it's a more powerful rod? I mean, that always happens in any rod lineup as the blank gets more powerful (but thicker), right? I think that assertion is backed up by my on-the-water experience: I've dropshopped a bit on the 852 and prefer the 822. But I haven't fished them side-by-side TBH, so take everything with a grain of salt. My memory might be skewed.
