What’s your spinning setup to have ready?

Post by clemsondds » Sun Jul 10, 2022 8:20 am

I typically carry three or four spinning rods that are already setup for specific techniques. Just curious what rods (if money was no object) would you have ready on your deck for various techniques/presentations? So looking for what techniques and then specific rods…eg ned rig and nrx nrr. For techniques I’m thinking: ned, shakyhead, drop shot and senko. Love o hear your thoughts on what you would carry

Even though the post was for higher end rods if money was no object, I am very satisfied with what I use and the setups that I currently own. Believe it or not, here in PA and fishing often in NY, I reach for spinning as often (sometimes more) than casting depending on the time of year, etc.

1. Megabass Levante Shakyhead 7' ML - Daiwa Luvias Airity LT 4000C-XH (this reel may go on my Unicorn Steez 76MML (original that is still new with tags). (All around finesse, drop shot, ned, etc.)

2. Megabass Levante Enforcer 7'4" M - Daiwa Certate LT 4000C-XH (power shot, big clear water dropshot (1000 Islands, etc.), heavier neds, swimbaits)

3. St. Croix Victory Crosshair 7'10" ML XF - Daiwa Caldia LT MQ 4000C-XH (maribou hair jigs)

4. Daiwa Kage Walleye Series 7'6" ML XF - Daiwa Procyon LT 4000C-XH (all around finesse again, hairs, neds, etc.)

5. Megabass Orocho XX Dropshot 6'10" ML (Gen1) - Daiwa Emblem Z 1500iA (dropshot, neds, small swimbaits)

All of these serve purposes for my intended methods of fishing and they are workhorses at each technique. I really find the Levante series as a bread and butter series that offers so much in the $200-250 price range.

Thanks I decided to try some high end gear for a few setups last year and found it to be very addictive :D

I dream of a top of the line Stella or daiwa equivalent
But every year I get so indecisive and I never try one.
Then on top of that the new model comes out completely frying my brain
For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible

Haha I hear ya!
What I was really wanting to know is what spinning rod techniques do you always have tied on. And if you want, share what rods you use for those techniques.

My 3000 exist reel came in last week but havent got the chance to use it yet. But it will be paired with the steez 7'6 ags :D
So mine would be:

Daiwa exist 3000D
Daiwa steez 7'6 ags (the one)

Really though, i plan to try everything on it.

My Baby:

Stella Blue (as I've named her)

She's the senko queen. I fish senko's in thick cover, but love using spinning tackle. So after many rods I ended up on the NRX Inshore XMR 804 spinning rod. (blue edition).

I use an older but bulletproof Stella 2500fb.

The senko slayer.

If i'm fishing open water senko's I move to the NRX 803s with a 3000 Sustain. It does what I need it to when not fishing thick.

I use an NRX 802s for tube fishing (open water lake erie), but it also works as a great jerkbait rod (nothing I would purchase for jerkbaits, but certainly doubles as one). I use a simple Stradic Ci4 on that setup.

On the topic, as I love using egg beaters, a beauty smallie setup is the G Loomis Bronzeback SMR751S-SP with a Shimano Stradic FH 1000F. I run 8lbs braid and cast smaller cranks, 4" grub on jighead, and even smaller jerkbaits.

Whish I could find another one of those!

Yeh I love my 803s. How does your 802 compare to your 803?

Also, anyone have a shaky head rod they love?

About 20 yrs ago, my dream spinning setup was a Heavy power 7' rod. Only Cabela's XML had that available so I got two of them. Of course I picked the two piece rods. Then I had acquired on clearance a Stella 4000FA and also a Stella 2500FB afterwards. I've been using those two setups for a lot of power fishing. Carolina rigs was top notch results. Great sensitivity and direct control with hooked up fish.
slip bobbing is the laziest way to fish

My MB Destroyer Addermine with a Stradic CI4+. I have more expensive combos, but nothing performs as well as this combo. It’s just perfect… and I wish I had a second one
