I’ll throw a 3/8 C-rig in the spring in shallow water. I think 1/2 jig is the tops for me on the 873. The 894c in the only jig rod you need, FTWSteveSchmelzle wrote: ↑Wed Aug 17, 2022 2:11 pmyou saw many people mentioned the 873CRR.
I know a ton of folk who love that rod, and I don't think any of them use it as a carolina rig rod.
It's a great jig rod to 3/4 ounce. It also cranks those swim baits and chatter baits along in the thick stuff. Even good for vertical approaches with lighter punching stuff (think sweet beaver with skirt with a 5/8 or 3/4 weight).
Love my 873CRR as much as the 893, which I believe I read was the highest selling NRX model.

I don't have an issue throwing a 3/4 ounce on my 873crr. As long as it doesn't have a massive trailer or something.
but everyone has their own comfort levels.

Re: NRX users…what’s your top three (or four) rods in the lineup?
I’m a huge MBR fan, owned 842 in IMX, GLX, NRX and Conquest. NRX 842c is definitely one of my favorites, and the taper is really unique. Main use is jerkbaits and topwater, but also works well with light spinnerbaits/chatterbaits, jigs, and crankbaits.
843c comes second as I don’t use it as much as the 842, but still just as versatile in the heavier weights. Any bait out there that’s within the lure ratings works great, and even works with some baits past that limit. Mainly use for spinnerbaits/chatterbaits, topwater, bigger jerkbaits(great 110 rod) and jigs.
873c is third. Use it mainly for jigs(pitching, football and light punching) so doesn’t see the versatility, but feels great with those single hooks.

I think the better question would be “what don’t you use your 843MBR for”clemsondds wrote: ↑Fri Aug 19, 2022 5:05 amWhat do you like to use your 843c for? Trying to justify a NRX level for a mbr. Thanks
Extremely versatile, from single hooks to trebles. Just about everything that’s in the lure weight range will work.

I guess I meant…what do you use it for where the “nrx” level rod makes a big difference? I get bottom contact nrx rods and you are paying for the sensitivity. So for moving baits, why get nrx level?Jeffbro999 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 19, 2022 9:38 amI think the better question would be “what don’t you use your 843MBR for”clemsondds wrote: ↑Fri Aug 19, 2022 5:05 amWhat do you like to use your 843c for? nrx873ccr, nrx853 and nrx+852 would be my favorites. I also have the nrx854, what do most of you use this rod for? thanks for your input

Re: NRX users…what’s your top three (or four) rods in the lineup?
Didn't really buy it for moving baits I originally bought it to use for finesse jigs which it is great for, along with light pitching, and other bottom contact. After having it for a bit was fishing one day and only had it with me and threw a chatterbait on it and it felt great doing that as well. Its just become that rod that if I'm on foot fishing small ponds I can carry the 843C and 852S and feel confident that all my favorite techniques can be covered.clemsondds wrote: ↑Fri Aug 19, 2022 3:30 pmI guess I meant…what do you use it for where the “nrx” level rod makes a big difference? Re: NRX users…what’s your top three (or four) rods in the lineup?
I have just about every model of NRX. The ones I could never part with are the 844, 853, and 804. I use each every trip out. But I must give honorable mention to 854, 894, 904. If you are seeing a theme I like heavy power rods because I fish heavy grass lakes.
Re: NRX users…what’s your top three (or four) rods in the lineup?
#1) 893c JWR - if I can only bring one casting rod, this is it.
- senkos, jerk shads (super flukes, d shads) with a 1/16oz. weight or a couple split shot 6-10” in front, spinnerbaits (3/8-1/2oz.), cranks and jerkbaits, topwaters, chatterbaits (that’s what I have tied on it now), 4” swimbaits with 1/8-3/8oz. head, and 3/8oz. Swim jigs and flipping/football jigs in light cover. I’ve tried 10” power worms with 1/2oz weight but too much for my liking, perfect for 7” worms with 3/8oz. weight. Also an amazing rod for dragging tubes for smallmouth. I love mine. I’ve caught panfish, perch, catfish, pike, musky, walleye and bass with it. Great overall rod.
#2) 895c JWR - I’ve affectionately named this the hero stick
- I’ve used everything mentioned above on this stick and it’s so sensitive. Obviously not the first or second or third choice for those applications because of how stiff and heavy it is, but it is an incredibly sensitive powerhouse of a rod. I have mine rigged up with a 1/2 oz flipping jig but it’s great for 10” worms, punching with 1/2-3/4oz weights… and used for frogs and small swimbaits like the 5” spark shad.
#3) 822s DSR - if you fish for smallmouth you need this rod.
- the ultimate drop shot rod.
I’ve owned a bunch of different ones in the lineup but these are the ones that stick out.

That's a nice group! I think the 852c and 894 are on my short list...I love the 873 but it does seem that its max is around 1/2 with trailer. Is the sensitivity on the 852c pretty good?

In nrx:
1#873crr-texas rig, light pitching
2#822dsr-drop shot, Ned, micro swimbaits
3#872s-neko, micro jigs, small swimmers, underspin
I still have a few other nrx spinning rods but went to conquests (casting) for everything else.
