New US Market Poison Ultima
Who's planning on grabbing one of these models? I want the 7ft medium heavy really, REALLY bad... But that price tag, holy crap! I've spent close to six hundred, but this is kinda crazy. I think they are absolutely stunning, and I already know that the performance will be incredible. It looks like they wised up and placed some type of tactile grip material on the upper grip.
Re: New US Market Poison Ultima
Wondering if they bumped up the warranty since this clearly is the flagship over Conquest and dat price tag.
Re: New US Market Poison Ultima
I own three of the Ultima rods 1610L 170MH 172H, and I agree - they are absolutely stunning rods. Really a joy to fish.
Re: New US Market Poison Ultima
Wow. You haven't even taken the wrapper off of two of them stunning indeed!
Re: New US Market Poison Ultima
What are they retailing for in the US? I saw the announcement, but it didn’t have MSRP attached. I like my JDM 6’10” M (the 2022 model) quite a bit,, but feel that it’s so crisp (especially when compared with the typical Shimano taper) that it’s not as universal as aid hoped.
Edit: Never mind, they’re listed for $879 on Tackle Warehouse. That’s too high, these rods are great but not better than other halo rods that retail for 200-300 less.

Awesome sticks and a huge Shimano fan but not tempted at this range. I've been pretty shocked how nice rods have been in the $200-$500 price range but that's just me. I'm sure its an awesome rod though.

That’s a hefty price tag but everything has gone up

Re: New US Market Poison Ultima
Price should be of no concern on this particular forum, we're all sick and possess far too much gear that cost a fortune.
Re: New US Market Poison Ultima
Can I just buy the JDM version and save a ton of money or is that forbidden by Shimano?
Re: New US Market Poison Ultima
#1 How can you charge this much money while not even made in Japan?
#2 How can you sell such an expensive rod with a 1 year warranty?

That's how I feel with my new PG. Very crisp, not nearly as versatile as the Adrena. I can only imagine how crisp these blanks must feel.Drakestar wrote: ↑Wed Jul 12, 2023 10:38 pmWhat are they retailing for in the US? I saw the announcement, but it didn’t have MSRP attached. Re: New US Market Poison Ultima
Is there any kind of proof of it being made in Japan? They write "Made In China" on the blank of cheaper Shimano rods, and i am not seeing Made In Japan on the Ultima.
Re: New US Market Poison Ultima
Agreed, but that also means that we, the group that spends a fortune to own far too much, have a choice on which high-end gear to spend our money on
I think a better way to phrase my comment is that I’ve already scratched the Poison Ultima itch and, at almost $900, don’t feel the urge to buy more. I’d rather try out new models in the NRX+ etc. lineups. I was going to say “if these were priced similarly to the Conquest, I might have reconsidered”, but then I checked and saw that Conquests have shot up to $775-800, as well.
The main advantage with having these PU sticks in American stores is that you can buy them on sale now or buy them at X off from a trusted seller. Can’t do that when you go the import route. (Plus, you get an actual warranty, at least.)
I own the 6’10” M Expride A, Adrena, Glorious and Ultima. Between the Expride, PU and PG, each blank gets crisper but the overall taper feels like it stays the same. To me it feels lik, as you go up, each rod loses some versatility but gains bottom-contact usability.Hogsticker2 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 13, 2023 10:19 pmThat's how I feel with my new PG. Between the PG and PU, things change. Feels like the taper goes from a Fast to an XFast, the bend is noticeably different and it’s only ever going to be a bottom-contact rod. A very good one! But that’s all it can be used for.
