NRX+ 803JWR vs IMX 783MBR for a "Do it all"

Post by Gunpackinpanda » Wed Aug 09, 2023 4:58 am

Hey guys, looking for some opinions here. I have an IMX 783c MBR that has been kind of my "everything" rod on the shorter stick end, paired with a 21 Zillion SV TW. On the medium-length end, I have a NRX+ 843MBR for the do it all stick. I have limited space in my new Mako Pro Skiff 15, so I like to keep rod count down if I can (It's hard as hell). So my question for the rod gurus is this: I recently picked up a brand 803 JWR NRX+ on a smoking deal ($250 from a dude at work) and had planned to use it as an upgrade from the IMX, being just a few inches longer, I felt the trade-up to the NRX+ level of sensitivity would be worth the extra length to account for in tip down presentations. My fear is that I will lose a lot of the flexibility of the MBR action to the EF action on the 803. What do you guys think? I am running 21' Zillion SV TWs on all of my rods, so the reel should not make a huge deciding factor. For other duties in my boat, I also have a GLX 852JWR, a Kistler Helium 735, an E6X 903XF, and a Vally Hills Blackscale XP BFS rod.

The 783MBR IMX would be a better all around rod vs the 803 NRX. NRX are mostly one trick ponies, i.e., bottom contact rods.
Try not to let your mind wander. It is much too small to be outside unsupervised.

I have the IMX Pro MBR 903 as a do it all and it is amazing

I would consider a longer rod for a do everything rod, perhaps the MBR 843 if you don't want to go all the way up to 7'6

I agree with what’s been said already: NRX not as versatile as the MBR. I have the 783MBR (Conquest) and the rod feels so much more versatile than my NRXs.

Like Hulkster said, maybe try the 843 and go up to the 7’ rod.
