Okuma X-series

Post by Chode » Sun Nov 05, 2023 5:35 pm

Anybody try these? The T1100g incorporated into the blank,at that price point, has me intrigued.

I'm in the same boat as you--these rods tick a lot of marks, but was hoping someone would be able to share.

I posted a query a few months ago but there was nada in response. My only concern would be the quality and durability of the Sea Guide reel seat.

Yeah, these rods seem legit and as godshippy said, they tick many of the right boxes. surprised that not a single person has written a review

There are a couple of rather glowing/positive reviews on TW, FWIW.

I'm actually considering a couple models in their spinning rods.

I'll check it out...I'm really interested in the 23 Exsence XR with the lower gear ratio, FWIW.

That's gonna be a pretty sick combo. Hopefully the rod is all that and a bag of nuts.

The only caution I see is that the Toray 1100G tends to be overly fast and stiffer than lower modulus offerings, which is not always a good thing. I'm considering the 7'6" ML spinning and hoping it will have enough give for 1/4-3/8 jerkbaits and shallow-mid cranks as well as like sized topwaters.

Maybe I'm wrong but i think yes and no. It really depends on how they incorporate the material and how they roll the blank. For instance, higher end Shimano rods def feel that way whereas evergreen kaleido rods showcase more versatility imho

Agreed. It seems as though higher end Shimano rods tend to lean towards bottom contact single hook presentations, while Evergreen has mostly created rods with high versatility.

The mandrel, scrim, resin, taper, blank reinforcement weaves, etc., all contribute to this as does the type guides and placement.

I have a feeling though, that most of the current Okuma X series lean towards crisp/fast/sensitive techs, much akin to the application of the T1100G in the Luxxe Efreet series rods that I have owned and fished.
