Light and Long Cranking Setup

I set the hook on a fish with my favorite rod and unfortunately the butt end broke, and I'm now looking for a replacement for a rod that isn't made anymore.

Cumara Reaction Series, Gen 1. The random 7'6" "Medium Light" model that worked great with small cranks up to 1/4 ounce. The happy zone was in that 1/8-3/16 zone using 8 to 10 pound test. 1/4 ounce would be on the heavy side of the application.

Is there a comparable Shimano model? Should I be exploring other horizons?

The reel I use is a Conquest 50 Shallow, and it's usually running 8 to 10 pound copolymer as the rod isn't really a bottom contact rod.

What are my other options that won't require a customs visit?

it has been a while since i brought a production cranking rod but I would say to the specifics you gave
a Megabass Deep Throat Custom is the rod I goto for things like you mentioned. I dont know of any that are for sell but of the new rods that is out I would look to the steez side of the house or even
Evergreen Cougar will fit the bill . i looked at mine the other day when i was doing something and said that I should get another for cranking as I only use it for j/b's

The closest to that Reaction Cumara that I see would be ZDC76MA - a Zodias series rod at 7' 6'' in medium ( moderate action) rated for 1/4 oz and up.

Find a Fenwick Techna GP 7'4L or ML. It's a JDM variation from a few years ago. I've got the L and it's perfect for lures up to 10 grams. Excellent build quality and visually appealing despite being made in China. (as most of thier rods are) They were slotted right below the Super Techna at around 60k yen when first released. Made a whole series of rods at 7'4.

Phenix Classic BFS 7'4"L (3/32-1/4). It's labeled an XF, but reviews are saying it is soft and would be better for moving baits.

Maybe a L to ML Shimano sea bass offering? Those lengths in casting rods for tiny plugs are more common in salt rods. You might when find some inshore rods from domestic brands too.

spinning. Either a Daiwa Tatula 7'6" MLMF, TTU761MLMFS, or a Dobyns DC 792. With a Daiwa Tatula 4000, and 8 lb Izorline XXX copolymer line. The bigger size reel is for less line issues.

That's a great idea. Maybe not as long as you would like but the in the new GLF Inshore series from Shimano there is a seven footer ML that is rated for your happy zone of 1/8 to 3/16.

I'm in agreement with Aquaftm45, despite being designated as a jigging rod, my two Techna GP TAV-GP74CLJ rods have become the backbone of my JDM micro-vibe (1/8oz-3/16oz) fishing arsenal and best of all, I was able to source both from 7palms for $450 out the door since these rods have been out of production for a few years. The Techna GP rods are among the smoothest casting rods own, second only to the Smith LTD Invincible Cranker and the Sedition Whtie Falcons, both of which cost several times the total cost of the two Techna GP rods combined.

Have no idea what the extent of the damage is, but if you broke the rod behind the reel seat, a builder should be able to fix that pretty easily so you can continue to use it.
