Any one ever removed Daiwa Z200 side plate(gear side)?
Any one ever removed Daiwa Z200 side plate(gear side)?
I had trouble in removing Daiwa Z200 side plate. I have had maintained many reels, but this one is different.
There is a screw different from others on the side plate. Ti is smaller and difficult to remove. I exert very big power to turn it but it did not move a little, I am afraid to cause permanent damage to the screw, which means I may not open the side plate any more, so I stopped.
In our local forum some people said Daiwa use a kind of special glue to strengthen the screw, in order to remove it, you must use soldering iron or high power hair dryer to heat it to make the glue lose its function.
Since this is a U.S marketing reel, is there any one who have experience to remove this screw could share your experience with me? Thanks a lot

That screw can be tricky. Make sure you have the proper size Phillips screwdriver and take your time. Worst case would be to use an extractor bit as described here:

The last time I needed a replacement part for a Z200H it was VERY difficult to get and I lost an entire fishing season waiting for the "slow boat" to arrive from Japan. The good news is that once you get the screw out you won't have to worry about it again.

My German made screwdriver is on the way, and now I know I can use a screw extractor for the worst case, thank you

Are you trying to just remove the spool?

No, I am going to remove the side plate so that I can do some maintenance of the gears inside.basser100 wrote:Are you trying to just remove the spool?

Hope it works! The screwdriver I like best is the Wiha 26110.
