Best bfs reel

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

Aldebaran bfs is hard to beat in that range, you can add conquest bfs gears and get close to conquest smoothness but still have an ultra lightweight reel. The new Daiwa air reels have great reviews but I haven't used the 28mm spool yet. I can also recommend the alphas and steez ct with the 30mm DIY spools as a fantastic bfs reel. The alphas air stream custom is a great out of the box reel as well.

Alphas ct sure is not the best, but still it's extremely good with KTF tuning spool or with cheaper Ali spools. Steez / Alphas Air should be better at least with tuning spools.

The conquest would be fantastic, especially if you have a longer/heavier rod to balance it with. It is probably the smoothest most solid bfs reel you can get.

Daiwa Alphas AIR TW.
I do not own the 16 Aldebaran BFS, but I have most other highly rated BFS reels. The new Alphas will not disappoint,.

Alphas Air TW 8.6 ratio = 75 cm / rev

Aldebaran BFS 8.0 ratio = 80 cm / rev

Small spool diameter does that 8.6 Alphas Air is not that fast...

I will chime in here. My vote would go to the Alphas AIR TW. I feel it is better than the 16 Aldebaran BFS in every way. The Aldebaran BFS is light but, the Alphas AIR TW is still light.

The casting out of the box is better than a souped up Aldebaran BFS or, at least very very similar. Pitching small lures with the Alphas AIR TW is VERY nice.
