$100 reels........
Re: $100 reels........
What about a Shimano Caenan? retails under $100.
Re: $100 reels........
Made in Malaysia if that means anything to ya, not Japan like the Citica and Curado.robchik04 wrote:What about a Shimano Caenan? retails under $100.
I have a Saros ,Stradic and Sustain all made in Malaysia they seem to fine reels.
Re: $100 reels........
If I was looking for a new reel in that range I think any of the BPS reels (PQ, PQ Tournament, Carbonlite) would be my first choice. Unfortunately I don't own a Citica to compare, but both my PQ and Carbonlite outcast my Revo S. Using 1/2oz+ it may not be a huge difference, but anything less I find the BPS reels to perform much better.
The Carbonlite is actually one of my favorites. It's light but feels very solid, fits my hand well, performs great...and I personally love the EVA knobs. When I bought it I was actually looking at Curados, but felt like for the $180 MSRP vs $120 the Carbonlite had more features and actually felt 'sturdier' in my hands than the Curado.

Re: $100 reels........
Daiwa Viento -$89, BPS Proqualifier-$99, and for a little more the Carbonlite- $20 plus tax.
Re: $100 reels........
This reel as a very distinct caracteristic to all the rest discussed: Plastic frame. I do not want to give an opinion on performance or long term use because I have never touched the reel, but imho I would go to a metal frame reel. I got a Pro Qualifier tournament (same reel as the carbonlite minus the cf handle) and is quite a nice reel.robchik04 wrote:What about a Shimano Caenan? retails under $100.

I remember that there was one site that had the LH Sols for $165. But that's the cheapest I have seen them for.facelessnewsouth wrote:The revo s is a solid reel, the carbonlite is pretty good, and the citica is nice as well.
As far as a Sol for $100, point me in that direction. I can't find one under $160.

Re: $100 reels........
The viento is an incredible reel. That is the best deal Ive seen so far. its normally $210 bucks but tacklewarehouse has them for $89. I got one a few months ago.

Re: $100 reels........
I completely forgot about the Viento being $89.99 at Tackle Warehouse. I don't think you'll find a better deal on a new reel than that. I've got one that I have had for quite a while and it is, hands down, the most reliable reel I've ever owned. I've never had a single problem from the thing, it can cast ANY bait, and I can count on no fingers the number of times I've had to adjust it to different baits. I set it and haven't had to touch the cast control or brakes since, and I've thrown everything from small shaky head setups to big swimbaits with it.

my vote is for the citica 200E
Re: $100 reels........
You might consider the Wright and McGill Victory too, TT has given it a good review not long ago.
Re: $100 reels........
Browning Citori is another model to consider, it's a BPS Brand now basically, and a PQ variant. Being a LH cranker and liking multiple ratio's, in the $100 price point Shimano doesn't do it for me, Carbonlite & Revo S only one ratio, etc so I looked at PQ, Exceler, and the Browning. Normally $99, they were on sale recently for $69 so I picked up 6 a few in each ration. Not a bad reel for the money - Aluminum Frame, bearing handles, clicking drag and tension, externally adjustable centrifugal cast control, v-spool, etc.
Make no mistake, it is a $100 reel. Comes with too much oil and grease IMO, and fit n finish doesn't compare to higher end models like the Zillion, Sol, etc which I used previously. But for 1/5 the price I wouldn't expect it to.
Really a solid real for the price IMO, better yet when on sale. Probably still going to pick up a PQ 4.7:1 next time they go on sale and I should be set...
