$100 reels........

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

$100 reels........

Post by bass247 » Mon Feb 28, 2011 7:03 pm

If you was in the market for a $100 reel, what would be your consideration and why? :-k
Keeping in mind that not all of us can afford high end reels like the Calais, Steez, Zillions, Premier, etc......Something that we can use for pretty much all around fishing.

I think I would go with a Revo S...although it is 120ish, it can be had for less if you hunt enough.

Shimano Caenan
Okuma Cayenne

Both reels can be had for less than $ 100.00 and they both perform well. Surprised of their performance considering the
price.

If your up for something that is a touch more finesse oriented, you can pick up a Sol for around $100, or slightly over, if you keep your eyes open. Out of several options that I have in my arsenal, my Sol ends up in my hands quite often for lighter baits.

My vote goes to the Citica E.. Just a tad bit more money new and right at the $100 price used.. They're nice reels..

If you keep your eyes on the used market, you can get some really great reels for reasonable prices. That is what my arsenal is made of mostly.

As far as around $100 new, there are quite a few choices out there. The BPS Pro Qualifier is really a great reel. I wouldn't say you would have to be "desperate" as said above to get one of those. In my experience, the PQs I've used have far surpassed the Revo S in performance. Cabela's also has a new Prodigy reel out. The Prodigy B. It looks like it is built on a platform similar to Zillion.

I saw these new Pfluger Trions and I thought it was pretty nice for $100. Looks and feels awsome. Sort of looks like the Revos. Wonder if they came out of the same factory? :-k

Another suggestion if your willing to go $120 would be the bps carbonlite reel. I would also second the notion of going with a revo s. Although i only played with one in the store i came away quite impressed. It had a really solid build and seemed to have a refined feel when i turned it. Good luck.

The revo s is a solid reel, the carbonlite is pretty good, and the citica is nice as well.

As far as a Sol for $100, point me in that direction. I can't find one under $160.
