Is it Daiwa, Shimano, or someone else?

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

Daiwa for quality, durability, application, and looks.

Pretty much split equally between Daiwa and Shimano on reel ownership..Edge- Daiwa :D Interesting special editions and more customizing options.

bassbandit wrote:I voted Daiwa, but my vote could change very easily. I've been very disappointed by Daiwa's failure to introduce a quality all purpose reel in the $170-$220 range. I don't want to spend retail on the Zillions, although they are quality reels, and the Aggrest is very underwhelming. Having stated my preference for Daiwa, the last three reels I purchased were from other companies. Unless Daiwa steps it up, I'll probably be looking elsewhere.

I was hoping that I would really like Shimano's Curado E series, but I also find the "bump" on the hatch side uncomfortable. I've yet to try either the 50E or 300E, but I don't have the need at the moment, so they'll have to wait.
Glad to hear I am not the only one that does not like "the bump". I don't understand why they need to have that bump when there previous models did not.

I own both Daiwa and Shimano, but most of my fishing takes place in saltwater and you can't beat Shimano when it comes to durability and ease of maintenance. They are workhorse reels that can take serious punishment and keep on keepin on.

I voted Daiwa as well. With that being said I share the same thoughts as others...daiwa better get back in the game and start innovating again. They have a lot of blanks spots in their lineup.I also really like the Abu Garcia revo series reels alot. They have a very solid feel to them. I also used to use shimanos back in the day but the problems I was having with the spinning reels turned me off to them.

i'm kinda like bassbandit. daiwa is my favorite reel company because i loved their innovations and quality. but, it's always about "what have you done for me lately?" and daiwa's recent offerings are underwhelming. my last ten or so reel purchases have been shimano, abu, and others and my next will be a lew's. but, since the slight majority of my current keepers are shimanos, i voted shimano.

Man, Cal, this is tough! Trends are in transition as we speak. Luv my: TDLuna103-Fuego-Scorpion1000XT-Core50mg7-Conquest50, but I just ordered 2 Revo Premiers in the past two weeks.

I cannot honestly make a pick. ](*,)

The bump just feels uncomfortable to me. Maybe if I used it for awhile, but it just does not feel right, enough for me to let it follow me home. Soooooooooooooooooooooooo Shimano it is.

Daiwa is my favorite, but I also fish with Shimano, Bass Pro Shop, and an Abu Garcia Revo Premier.
Thanks for the epiphany captain obvious

I also like both Shimano and Daiwa but I like my Shimanos a little more so I voted Shimano.
The last two reels I got were Daiwas though.
