For now my vote is still my Daiwas. Just got a Quantum Smoke that is fast becoming a contender though.

I voted Shimano.
They out number my Daiwa's 2 to 1.
At least most Shimano JDM reels have a USDM counterpart .
Can't always say that with Daiwa .
Vlad, I don't think Cal liked the way that older poll went .
Edit: Or the guys that voted for Shimano in the previous poll, didn't re-register yet .

They discontinued the Sol, and their only good reels, the zillion, steez and fuego spinning are on the pricey side. Shimano has a lot more to offer in the mid-end price range and can also compete with Daiwa for the high-end stuff. Shimano gets my vote.
Re: Is it Daiwa, Shimano, or someone else?
Shimano all the way...that is unless they don't offer more lefty variants. Might have to buy an Abu Garcia or two.
I used Abu in the past, great reels. I VOTE SHIMANO though. Classy, Durable, and Reliable!

Shimano only
Re: Is it Daiwa, Shimano, or someone else?
Revo STX, Winch, and Premeir, are top notch in bait casters for the quality and value hands down. Spinning: The soron line is ok. but I still lean to Diawa TD Sol 2500 or the new Shimano Ci4 as preferred models.

I'm 95% daiwa.
Re: Is it Daiwa, Shimano, or someone else?
Like some of the other members I have Shimano and Daiwa reels and really like them. But I have started using the ABU Ambassedeurs round style reels both the old ones and new ones. They are real workhorses and for some reason I feel more confident using them even though not as smooth as the Daiwas and Shimanos and do not fit my hands nearly as well.

There is a difference in "what you used most" and "what is your favorite"...maybe the dawning of a new decade has something to do with it? Or maybe we're still missing a bunch of our guys since the crash?Speckled wrote:Vlad, I don't think Cal liked the way that older poll went .

I have alot of Shimano Casting Reels but I also have a good amount of Daiwa Reels. Its pretty close between the two for me but I give the edge (just barely) to Shimano for two reasons - various price ranges with reels and HEG. With Daiwa's, you either have Cheap or expensive reels. Only reel that is worth mentioning in the mediocre range would be the Advantage 153HSTA. The HEG System Gears just feel more solid and powerful than Daiwas (not that Daiwa don't have good gears systems) - but that is just be me.

Re: Is it Daiwa, Shimano, or someone else?
I used to be all about shimano, then they decided to cut cost and cut out a lot of my LH options in their most popular lineups. They lost me when they introduced the E and didn't have a 6.3:1 ratio reel in the curado lineup.
Daiwa has always just been weird to me, and has been stated, they are doing an absolutely abismal job of coming out with anything decent in the $150-$200 zone.
Abu and Quantum are doing a much better job giving us lefties options, though quantum still has durability issues while Abu (particularly the Revos) has parts availability issues.
If shimano had more leftie options, particularly in the all-purpose 6:1 ratio, they'd run away with my business, but as it sits I use more Revo and Ambassadeur reels (upgraded of course) than anything else.
