Reeling Demographics... are you a righty or lefty

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

Speaking of casting reels only... do you reel with your right or left hand?

Right handed but reel with left. Love it! Quicker on the set as soon as it land no need to swap hands.

One thing I've been doing for years when pitching in shallow water is that I actually engage the reel with the same hand that I pitch with(my right). I use my middle finger to reach around (I know I know...lol) the underside of the reel to the star drag, a little flick as soon as the lure lands and the reel is engaged. I'll also give a couple more flicks to take up slack as I'm tip my rod slightly forward to my preferred hook setting position. Nothing ground breaking, just a little habit. I can't say for sure but it's probably the remnant of the days when I used righty reels.

I'm also right hand dominant so I want the rod in my right hand for casting, working the rod, and fighting the fish. Reel with my left hand.

every time I see one of these polls on line the results are the same the manufactures still insist there isn't a big enough left handed market. Since I fish LH and only use shimano I always feel like a second class citizen, but deal with it because I love the product. Maybe some day there will be a change and they will make everything available in RH and LH. I know when the Curado D was released I waited close to a year, after the 200D, to get my hands on the 7.0:1 201D. At least they were better with the E...

I have come to the conclusion RH users just don't use the internet....

I didn't vote because I reel baitcasters with either my right hand or left hand. I have a number of both types. I find that having a mix reduces fatigue during tournaments.

There should have been a third choice: either hand.

I began lefty-reeling with older model spinning reels that only reeled lefty.

FYI...I once watched a KVD video on flipping and pitching. It's mostly on pitching, but he opens the video on flipping. I noticed that's the only time KVD uses a lefty baitcaster. It makes sense because if he flips a lure into a hole, and gets a strong hit immediately on the fall, he doesn't have to switch hands as he flips with the rod in his right hand.

I was born left-handed, but was forced by my parents at a young age to learn to use my right. I guess you can call me ambidextrous. I throw right and write left (but can write with my right as well). In basketball, I shoot 3 points better left-handed and normal shots better right handed. Kind of strange I know. In the realm of fishing, I'm more accurate casting/pitching/flipping with my right so I reel with my left. I did the pitch/switch for awhile with a RH reel, but figured a LH to be more convenient.

I'm left handed. I write with my left hand. That's the hand that I use to hold the rod with and I retrieve with my right hand. I'm fortunate to have all the models and gear ratios.

One of the biggest advantages you can have playing Baseball is being a lefty pitcher and you threw RIGHT!?!?
