curado 50E or Lew's speed spool tournament pro
Lew's Tournament Pro Speed Spool
TP1SH Right 7.1:1 6.7 10BB + 1RB 12/120 $179.99
or
Shimano Curado 50 E Series
CU50E Right 6.4:1 6.9 5SS,1SA-RB + 1A-RB 10/105, 12/85 $199.99
which one would you choose and why?
I have a grip of Daiwa's. Pixzilla, Sols, Alpha itos, Zillions, Steez (all baitcasters). just looking for something a little different to add to the mix...
I really like the little 50E, and have a cumara rod that it would be sweet on, BUT the LEW's looks interesting, more bearings, faster, a lil bit lighter, and a CARBON handle...
I don't plan on using any specific technique with the reel, just another reel to go through the collection.

Becuase I own two CU50E's, I would venture to go with the Lew's.

how do you like your 50Es? is the LEW;s a curiosity factor? (that is what is intriguing me)...

Re: curado 50E or Lew's speed spool tournament pro
I have both reels and I like my Lews quite a bit better at this point and time. It handles light baits just as well as the 50E and handles the heavier baits even better. Light beinhg 3/16 to 1/8 and heavier being 5/16 up to 1/2oz for me.
The reel is just as smooth and the drag is very smooth as well. The reel is also very nice looking and really like the carbon fiber handle. The braking system works very well also. The centrifugal and the magnetic work very well independently of each other and work very well together.

Re: curado 50E or Lew's speed spool tournament pro
I've only played with the Lew's Speed Spool reels in the store and they are solid peices of machines. I just like the feel of the graphite reel. There's no back handle play. The flat paddle knobs are different. There's a very natural fit when I palm held the reel. Felt better than the CU50E.
I don't like that annoying front screw knob on the CU50E. It's an amazing casting reel eventhough this reel felt slightly sluggish fresh from the box. I've removed my anti-reverse pawl and it feels much better. The reel feels almost nonexistent on a rod, but again that front screw knob reminds me it's there everytime I'm palming it. Used the reel for ice fishing and it's great. Only barely used it for fall fishing. My intentions will be using these for some light cranking. Avid crank rods, medium, one 6'6" and one 7'.

A good friend bought a Lews an it broke on third fishing trip.He took it back to the dealer and they replaced it.The dealer said replacement parts are a problem.

I was trying to make the same decision and ended up buying a Lews tournament pro today.

Interesting, I have 5 of the Tournament PROs and 2 of their spinning reels and have not had any problems with them. Lews customer service is top notch also, if you have any concerns just give them a call or send them an email and they will take care of you!pistol1911 wrote:A good friend bought a Lews an it broke on third fishing trip.He took it back to the dealer and they replaced it.The dealer said replacement parts are a problem.

Since you're looking for something a little bit different I'd get the Lews.. It's lighter too...

Friday I am picking up the Lew's!
loved the old ones back in the day, I know that the new ones are basically a BPS type reel, but should be a neat addition to the tool box.

I only have one 50E but I'd go w/ the Lew's. I like the handle on it.slipperybob wrote:Becuase I own two CU50E's, I would venture to go with the Lew's.
Re: curado 50E or Lew's speed spool tournament pro
I ordered 2 spare spools and a couple of spool pins for my tournament pros last week. Parts were in stock and shipped to me that day had them 2 days later. I do not know about other parts but these were not a problem.pistol1911 wrote:A good friend bought a Lews an it broke on third fishing trip.He took it back to the dealer and they replaced it.The dealer said replacement parts are a problem.
