If you could have just one reel

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

Powerful but in the light tiny profile. Great reel. Close second for me is the Calcutta TE100 DC. Couldn't believe how nice this reel is to cast.
that core is a great little reel. i have the one the winds from the correct side, the 51Mg7, and love it. :big grin:
Yours may wind from the correct side but mine winds from the RIGHT side !

1 reel? Shimano Calcutta Conquest. I'm so happy that I've finally got it since laying eyes on it since it was released.

Hard choice with so many reels.

1. Type R+ or Custom I'ze - essentially same reel
2. ITO 103M
3. Z2020
4. Calcutta 100DC

But I have 3 MB reels - Racing Condition HG68, Custom Zonda and an IS73C plus I just picked up a Shimano Antares HG. Due to health issues last year, I really have not had a chance to put these through the hoops yet.

Spin - Stella 3000FE - way way nice :D

It has to be a round reel, CQ 101DC was my first choice but since acquiring 4 MB monoblocs, it will have to be my Grigio Titanio. Brings a smile to my face whenever I hold it in my hands, priceless.

Hmmmm, have to be a Daiwa Z200/2020 without question! Beast can handle almost any size fish a man could handle. Runner up would have to be a Ryoga 1016.
The first time I answered that question (above) I really thought I knew that answer but having handled it and concluding it felt like a low profile Pluton (which I already have, lol) I changed my mind. Call it my "mulligan" choice! Lol. I also had a chance to handle the new Diawa Zillion R+ and knew I found my one and only, there was no turning back so I bought the sucker! Hehehe, dam it was a great choice too. Came home with it, spooled it up with some Ghost 832 in 8#, put it on a St. Croix Legend Extreme and headed for the park with a practice plug (3/8 oz.). Handled the 8 deg F late afternoon lows with no problem (Colorado cold!), and with the stock lubricant no less. HAH! Finally had to come in when I lost feeling in the ole digits but even then couldn't get the R+ to backlash without really trying. An incredible reel to have if it were a one and only that's for sure ...

Sorry for the backstory but I thought you might enjoy hearing how things came together.

Another vote for the calais 200 dc. The more you use it the more it grows on you.

Easy. My Curado50E. I like the Chronarch too, but I love the Curados color, its classic. I can fish 4-15# nylon line to 6-50# braid. Most versitile reel, thats why its my daily user with 12# YoZuri on it.
