Daiwa tdz 100M US Trails?
Does anyone know if the us trails is a jdm reel or was it sold in both markets?
Re: Daiwa tdz 100M US Trails?
What's the difference between US Trails and standard TDZ?
Re: Daiwa tdz 100M US Trails?
The spool is larger with more line capacity. It has the 5:7 gear ratio for larger baits. Personally, i feel that the reel was more of a marketing hype/ploy by Daiwa to sell the reel because it could handle larger baits than the standard TDZ. Its great for cranking medium size baits. Is there a difference in gear size between the standard TDZ and the 100m?
Re: Daiwa tdz 100M US Trails?
I just took out my U.S.Trail box and checked to see if instructions were in English or Japanese. Japanese.
It has the longer handle, the lower 5.7:1 and larger spool, like stated above.
I also have 2 other regular TDZ 103's and I often cast them side by side.
When I use lighter baits like 1/80z shakey heads, wacky worms, senkos, I use the 103s.
But when I'm casting a heavier bait.....a medium crank, a 3/8 oz spinnerbait, a Vision 110, Pointer 100, or 3/8-3/4 jig or swimbait, I find the U.S.Trail more to my liking. Pulls the larger baits with less effort. Also casts most baits without needing much attention to any adjustment. Handles everything. And, it also is better for my brother who is not the best baitcaster.....it is more forgiving than the 103's.
I also have the Zillion SHA and find the Trails will outcast it with the same baits. The Zillion definitely has a preference for larger baits.

This is my TDZ 100M. It was supertuned by Ian. It also has the PE long cast spool and red TDZ drag star and cast control cap. This reel will launch 5/8 ounce cranks further than any other reel that have owned.

Sweet looking reel, BR!!
What rod is that?
I have mine on the Daiwa Zillion rods and they are a perfect match.

Does this reel come standard with a clicking drag star? How many variants of the TDZ's were there, and can someone brake down the gear ratios (IPT), and line capacity as well? Does this version come with the longest stock handle available?

Yes on the clicking drag...
100M is 5.7 and 22.x IPT with 90mm handle (biggest stock tdz handle). 100yds/16lb.
103H is 6.3 and approx 26 IPT with 80mm handle. 100yds/12lb.
103P is 5.1 and 19-20" IPT with 80mm handle 100yds/12lb.
105H is 6.3. Don't know IPT (maybe same as 103h) 80mm handle 100yds/8lb.
That's ballpark...without looking up specs.

I had to mention that your 100M is one of the sweetest I have ever seen (must function as nice or even better, I bet). Thanks for sharing such a beautiful creation!BRbasser wrote:This is my TDZ 100M. BTW, how did you manage to get that swept handle design to fit on over the stock drag?

And you can throw in the Fuego since it is nothing more than a rebadged "detuned" version of the 100M.

I added a clear spacer. That handle is from the Zillion R. Semper Fi handles will fit without the spacer but they are sold out of handles right now.dragon1 wrote:I had to mention that your 100M is one of the sweetest I have ever seen (must function as nice or even better, I bet). Wow, I've dug up a sorta, kinda old thread! I'm trying to find some technical info for this reel. Bearing, line capacity, etc. for this model. I stumbled upon this reel in a for sale forum and when viewing the photos I noticed the phrase, Made in Japan, and it caught my eye. Well, I bought it for $65. Now I'm looking for a link for some info.
