Shimano Chronarch Gear Ratio

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

Shimano Chronarch Gear Ratio

Post by ipeeinmywetsuit » Sun May 26, 2013 10:08 am

I am going to pair this reel up with my Megabass Orochi 72x4 Destruction. I am going to be throwing 3/8-1/2 jigs, swim jigs, smaller swimbaits up to 2oz, paddle tails, texas rigs, senkos, you get the idea.

Do you all think I'd be better off with a 7.0:1 or 6.4:1 gear ratio on the chronarch? I am leaning towards the 6.4:1 because like the destruction it will be more versatile. Let me know what you think!

For that range of baits I would use the 6.5 too. Take the swimbaits/paddletail out of the equation and jump to the 7.0.

Just out of curiosity, are you only looking at a Chronarch? Lots of good sales on reels this weekend.

That would be a sweet setup! Why not wait for the new Chronarch?

Who is having good sales on reels? I am always looking for new options. I prefer left handed reels. The only website I could find doing more than 15% off is BTD.

I have a 7.0:1 that is brand new and has been sitting in the box. I planned on ordering a flip/pitch rod to use with it. However, long story short I ended up ordering the x4 Destruction and I am going to exchange the 7.0:1 for the 6.4:1. Shouldn't be a problem considering I haven't done anything with it.

BTD 25% is the highest I know of. Tacklecenter has 20% with code memorial20

I much prefer my 6.5.

I have all three and it is my most used. I like the slower model more and more though. It really isn't that slow.
