Favorite shimano reel for spinnerbaits n buzzbaits.

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

Have to go to 'the auction site," etc. to get them....but the Calais 200A is awfully hard to beat. I have 3 that are used primarily for the exact apps you mentioned...to go along with a pair of Calais 100As for cranking. Shimano's best low-profile, moving bait reel effort ever, IMO..

My vote for this is actually the Shimano Chronarch 100D series. It's lighter than the calais reels and the reel is smooth. This is by far my favorite reel that shimano has ever released in the US market.

15-20lb test? Conquest 100 - 200.

"Thin" 15-20 like a good JDM, Calais 100A

A Chronarch 200E6 would work well...Could go cheaper with a Curado 200G6. Maybe a JDM Scorpion 1000XT or 1500XT if you have the funds. I personally like the Chronarch 50E or the Scorpion 1000XT for the smaller/lighter size. The IPT is 25" or 26". Plenty to keep a buzzbait up out of the water but not to fast for a spinnerbait.

Chronarch D is what I use for those baits.

It's hard to find a brand new one now :(

Chronarch 100D is a great reel, no doubt, but I have found the 6.2:1 Calais (4" less IPT) is a bit more comfortable throwing a SB, especially if using bigger/Colorado/Indiana blades. Calais also holds a bit more line...just something to think about...weight is the Calais' downside but almost unnoticeable with rod down/moving bait apps.

Last season I was using a antares AR (calais 100a) on my spinnerbait rod. I found it a bit slow when I really needed to burn them. This year I picked up a calais 200a for that rod and I'm thinking it will be a better match.

I also was throwing some larger spinnerbaits for pike with my calcutta 100dc just because I love using that reel, again it's a bit slow and the line capacity is a touch low if you were using heavier floro or mono but perhaps the 200 or 250 DC would work well... If it isn't too bulky for you.

I'm using a Chronarch 201e6 paired up with a Veritas (which looks amazing btw :big grin: ) and I'm about to put some 15# line on it this week.(had 12#)
It's super smooth and reels in the baits at a perfect speed. Great reel for the money

Most of the time, my favorite reel for spinnerbait/buzzbaits is the Curado/Chronarch 50E. It palms so well, and the 25" IPT is the right speed for average conditions. For buzzbaits, a faster 7.1 reel can be nice to get it on plane quickly and easily, or to cover a lot of water quickly while searching.

Chronarch 200E6. I would not go E7.

The D series are selling for high prices in the aftermarket, despite being discontinued. Shimano made a great reel, but the marketing types seem to control things, so there's a new reel series every three years or so. Sometimes the new series is of lesser quality. I could say the same thing about the Curado E series, a high quality reel and a great value.
