Longest lasting reels

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

Another vote for a quality RR...

Morrums, Millionaires, Calcuttas/Conquests, Ambassadeurs...all are pretty damn tough and will last decades with proper care (and some even without) and minimal parts replacements.

My Wife's grandfather gave me an Ambassedeur 5000 he purchased in 1958. When I first started fishing in the 80"s I used it quite a bit. I do not use it very much now but have it on a 7'6" Shimano Crucial Crankbait rod. With a 1/2 oz crank it is still a great reel.

I have some shimano spinning reels from the early 90's that I still use. No problems yet.

"Lots of good ones, but 1960's and 1970's Abus are great reels.

I've been fishing with an Ambassadeur 5000 since the early 1960s. In the '70s, I added a Gator Grip handle and a speed gear to it. Otherwise, nothing but regular maintenance.

If you keep a Calais cleaned and maintained I can't see anyone wearing one of those out !!!! I really think mine gets smoother the more I use it.

ABU 6500C3 without question. You could drive nails with it. I know a few guides who keep some on the boat for the punters to use because they're hard to break.

My three Curado 100B reels are ten years old and look and perform like the day I took them out of the box.
