Keep us posted. It is very nice to see how different setups compare.GARRIGA wrote:No tape measure but I did bow hunt and played football so I have a pretty good sense of 30-40 yards. Can you put some numbers for reference?
I believe the 65 lb PP may cut a little bit the distance. Going smaller may get you even further.
This is the only reference I have recently with trap baits. Last time I used those were the original Bill Lewis and those were mostly 1/4 oz close quarter canal fishing. Only reason I did this was for an impoundment near me that has surface feeding and always just beyond my reach. Next up is chucking 2oz Kastmasters and Crippled Herring on my Z2020 with 40# braid and Cumara 711XF. I was spooling my Z with that exact setup but with 65# 832. I estimated that setup had 70 yards of line based on other's feed back plus I once walked off the entire spool and it looked like 70 plus. Need to find an accessible football field so I can stop guessing these things.
Will say this much, that Z setup with the Crippled Herring was being spooled mid flight so I'm guessing I could have gotten another 10-30 yards. We'll see when I convert to 40# and toss on an actual field. Hopefully I can finally reach those darn fish.

Resurrecting this thread..
Has anyone beat their previous record with a tatula?

I haven't found the Tatula to excel at distance. On the same rod, with the same line, my CI4+ will outcast it every time. The Tatula is much easier to use though. It seems like it's impossible to backlash.Afrayedknot wrote:Resurrecting this thread..

I am trying to decide between a tatula, t3b, ch 201e and new curado.. Toughest decision of my lifetywithay wrote:I haven't found the Tatula to excel at distance. I personally thought the Ballistic was trash. The Tatula feels better to me. I'm curious about the new Curado as well.Afrayedknot wrote:I am trying to decide between a tatula, t3b, ch 201e and new curado.. Wonder where the new JDM Daiwa SS SV will fit in terms of casting capabilities. This seems like the 1st all purpose super versatile spool/reel. If it picks up where the TDZ left off and offers a little more it will be superb.

Hoping to know in a month. Already put in my deposit the first day japantackle had them available.Hogsticker2 wrote:Wonder where the new JDM Daiwa SS SV will fit in terms of casting capabilities. Necromancing to compare against "modern day" reels.

Re: Straight up long distance
I have a 1st gen Smoke 150 that casts 10-15 yds further with typical bass baits than any other reel I have ever used, and that's with 20# mono on it. With bigger baits, I have a 1st gen Revo S with a deep winch spool that gets the most distance I have ever casted.
Last is a Fuego CT that gets better distance with 17# copolymer than any other of my Daiwa reels that are equipped with an SV spool and thin braid.
Try not to let your mind wander. It is much too small to be outside unsupervised.
Re: Straight up long distance
Yeppers...it still reaffirms it's all about the desired tech, and the pairing with a proper rod, line, and type lure and what weight.
IMO, no FW bass sized BC is going to sniff the tail end of an Abu Blue Yonder casting tournament reel with a custom long cast competition spool, especially with a 1 oz weight and a 8-9 foot + competition casting rod.
There are lots of different ones that work for different peeps, and what I have found is that modern day reels aren't any better or longer, grant d braking profiles may be more friendly.

Re: Straight up long distance
Among my current lineup, it's probably going to be the 2020 MET. Might have to use thin braid so it doesn't get spooled though. These light MGL spools with mono or braid(lightweight line that keeps total spool weight down) will absolutely launch baits into orbit because you can keep the break settings fairly low and still control the spool at the beginning of the cast.
When filled with FC, it really cuts the performance down.
With my 22 Bantam I like to run 4/6 brakes and I run braid to FC leader. Not only can I stay low on the brake dial but I can also achieve fantastic distance and control/consistency.

Re: Straight up long distance
I'm still going with a T3 or Steez SV TW with Zpi PG or M... Unless casting heavy baits over 3/4 oz.
Re: Straight up long distance
Yeppers, ZPI PG in a modern TWS like the 2019 Morethan PE SV is straight up crazy distances.
