Core 50 line options

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

For what type of baits? I've jerkbaited with 8 lb.Trilene XL, but light, for jigs for me, would be 14 lb Toray Superhard.

I have 8lb Sunline Super Sniper on one and 12# Invisix on the other, for different applications, of course. No complaints, works well with either.

I do a lot of heavy cover fishing and have a pair of these Core 50's on NRX854/873 so they see lot's of action pitching cover. Through the summer I use to run 50lb Sunline FX2 on both, but now have the braid on just 1 reel and 22lb Sunline Shooter Fluoro on the other Core 50Mg7. They hold the line well and for pitching I love the smallest most compact reel I can find.

Recently however I took the 50lb off and spooled 15lb PowerPro Super Slick in Timber Brown and was pitching bucktail jig's for walleye in the 3/8oz-1/4oz range. The line stayed tight to the spool and handled better than I thought for such a low dia line.

Hope this helps, there tough reels.

I have 14# Toray Superhard Upgrade on my Core 51/DX743 combo and have no trouble tossing 1/4oz jigs and weightless 5" Senkos.

I use 20# sufix832 braid. This is equivalent to 6# trilene mono.
For some application, I put 2 feet of fluoro as the leader.
It's been working great with this setup.

Straight braid or straight fluoro. The recoil's do not like knots.

I find 20lb braid to be about perfect (is what my Core 50 is loaded with). 6 lb diameter with 20 strength. Aside for my flippin reels and my UL rigs, the 20lb stuff (Suffix/Tuf-line) go on all my reels with a Flouro leader.

The lowest pound test I have gone on a Core 51 is 10-pound FC Sniper for shakeyheads. Works great. Have yet to try it with 8-pound test though.

I've used CXX 6 lb test (.23 mm), which is typically other mfgs 8 lb test diameter. Currently, I'm using 15 lb yellow powerpro.
