Looking for a workhorse
I beat my stuff up pretty bad. I keep up on maintenance and things, I think I'm just extra hard on stuff. I bought an mgx about two years ago. The thumb bar is starting to stick. I bought a 3rd gen premier last year and I think that one is starting to stick as well. Im not trying to badmouth the mgx or premier, I just think they are ill suited for longevity in my hands. I've been eyeing the chronarch ci4, and now I see the curado I is coming out. Any suggestions? I'm not exactly brand loyal, I have a bunch of higher end shimanos on my musky rods but those reels are tanks compared to bass reels. I need something that is functional, durable, and still high performing. Ill pay the $, but I am also not looking for a reel that I will want to hang myself over if it gets banged around a little bit. Thanks for your time and suggestions.

Either a Daiwa Zillion or one of the new Shimano Curado 200 reels should do the trick. Some reel covers should keep your new reels looking new.

Daiwa Zillion, built like a tank but very smooth.

Re: Looking for a workhorse
Chronarch Ci4 is a good choice. Mine are holding up great so far to some very large fish. If the new Curado is built similar, and it seems very close, it should be a great workhorse reel as most Curados have been. Its pretty much a toss up between the 2, if you want a lighter reel, choose the Chronarch, as that's the main benefit I see. A Chronarch D would be another great choice if you can find one.

Workhorse for what weight lures and lines?
Re: Looking for a workhorse
Something like a Zillion Type R or Calais come to
MInd. These are the type of reels that are often seen "beat up"
But functionally perfect.

Re: Looking for a workhorse
I would think about trying the new curado coming out. Should be a solid reel and a great proce. Or find a D7
Re: Looking for a workhorse
Ive used the Zillions sounds right for what you want just received a couple of D series Shimanos haven't put them thru the test yet so far so good.I use mine for all applications( bass) up to 3oz stuff.Hope this helps
Re: Looking for a workhorse
Zillions without a doubt
Re: Looking for a workhorse
I'd look around for used Calais A's, Zillions, and Curado D's. Those reels are all solid as can be and reasonably priced, for the most part. The new Curado looks like a winner, but until it's put through the wringer, hard to really tell. If you want a great performing reel at a value, look at the Daiwa Tatula. It's a little beast of a reel too and performs well above its price point.

Another vote for the Zillion. Perfect for that weight range. Love my Zillions.Greenstealth wrote:12Lb copoly and usually 3/8-3/4dragon1 wrote:Workhorse for what weight lures and lines?
