Daiwa T3 1016 for shallow cranking
Daiwa T3 1016 for shallow cranking
Anyone tried using a Daiwa T3 1016 for cranking? I will be using 3/8-1/2 oz cranks that dives from 3-8 feet most of the time. It's not a direct comparison but I had a T3B XS in the 8.1:1 ration and it felt under powered just retrieving jigs back to me. I was thinking of adding a basszone CF handle. Would you guys recommend a 90mm or a 100mm for cranking? Thanks.

I would go with the 100mm for cranking...if speed cranking lipless, a 95mm is my preferred handle length.

I have an MX and 1016. I really like it for 3/8 oz lipless, squares, and flats. I have a 90 mm basszone handle on the 1016 and its perfect. I think 100 mm is to long and would look huge on that reel. 90 mm is perfect for me as my pinky knuckle doesn't knock. Anything shorter is just to short.

I have the Ballistic XS 8.1, and I put the Hawg Tech curved handle with red accents on it. I love it, but yes the reel seems a little funny to me when reeling compared to my others. Maybe its the material of the reel.

The design cut of the levelwind affects the feel of the T3 type designs.LgMouthGambler wrote:I have the Ballistic XS 8.1, and I put the Hawg Tech curved handle with red accents on it. I'm just not having the best of luck with a few of my reels. It may be normal, but I expect more from reels of this price. With this long winter trying to redo my setups and looking to move the T3 to cranking. I may send the T3 back to Daiwa to see if they can make the sound go away. The stupid part is I want to buy another T3 . Just something about this reel that is enjoyable to fish. Probably because of the ease of casting and the quiet and smooth 3D braking system.

I recently picked up a used MX and 1016. My T3 1016H also makes a metal sounding whirring noise on the cast. Meant to start a thread asking if any others have the same problem. It seems at least one other person does. Please let me know if you fnd out what causes the noise.Bass1980 wrote: I may send the T3 back to Daiwa to see if they can make the sound go away.

The sound on mine is on the retrieve. It's like a buzz noise. See link that was posted a few replies above. It is silky smooth on the cast for mine which is why I still feel like the reel will be used for many years by me.

Thanks. Already read that thread. Doesn't relate to my problem. Will start a separate thread rather than continue hijacking this one.Bass1980 wrote:The sound on mine is on the retrieve.
