Shimano Chronarch 150 CI4 and Curado I questions

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

Shimano Chronarch 150 CI4 and Curado I questions

Post by Bass Yaker » Fri Apr 11, 2014 2:30 am

Hello,
I've noticed in pictures that some Chronarch 150 CI4 reels have black handles and some chrome. I was thinking it might be like the Aldebaran where the MG7 has a black handle and the lower gear model has a silver handle. Is this the case with the Chronarch CI4? also, have any of you handled the new Curado I reels? I see that they are 200 series and the CI4 is a 150. Is the CI4 any smaller in the hand then the Curado I reels? Thanks

High gear CI4+ has silver, low gear is black. The CI4 and Curado are essentially the same size. The difference between 150 and 200 is in spool depth.

If you hold both, it feels like the sideplates or something gives the curado a bit more width and , IMO doesnt palm as good.

The CI4+ is just slightly narrower and has a longer front end by a smidge. I can tell which is which with my eyes closed, but haven't noticed much difference holding them on the water.

X2. That’s been my experience as well.

The Curado I's spool is really wide, or at least feels that way. At first, it felt kinda odd especially after using a 50E and Ci4+ for a while. But now it feels just fine.

The Curado I spool is wider than the spool on the Calcutta 300D.

Yes, it is.

The spool on the Calcutta D is of course much deeper and holds considerably more line than the other two reels. The comparatively narrow spool of the D hasn't been a problem for me, but I can see how it could be for some.
