2014 Daiwa Ballistic

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

2014 Daiwa Ballistic

Post by tywithay » Wed Jul 09, 2014 8:34 am

Was hoping for black and gold to match the Tatula rods. Tired of stinkin' red.

I like it other than magseal. Curious to see the weights.

Looks like a color change, mag seal, and a tatula knob is all they did.

looks like a caldia with a couple more bearings (less crbb? dont recall the caldia count) and some red accents..

i dont mind the magaseal, as i love my certates with it. im curious about the line roller, usually on daiwas its silver with a gold roller, this one is red (cant see the actual roller), this makes me wonder if it, too, is magsealed. the 13 certate line roller is magsealed and black. i have 4 of the '10 certates and 3 of them have had problems with water/algae getting in the line roller...while it doesnt affect performance, it is loud and annoying!

im planning on buying a new rod/reel this winter, and was thinking of a luvias or a '13 certate, but if this has a magseal roller i might have to consider it. though im not a huge fan of daiwa using only 6:1 gear ratios on us products... im also not a fan of the 2004 spool they use on JDM products, heh.

cant wait for icast!

I'd be interested in testing out out to see how it compares to my JDM Certate Hi-Gear Custom.

Similar weight to the certates so not the lightest. It has 2 more ball bearings and supported so should be smoother, especially during load.
