Conquest 201 line capacity??

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

Conquest 201 line capacity??

Post by karirick » Fri Jul 18, 2014 2:49 am

Can anyone confirm the new CQ 201's line capacity? I've read conflicting numbers. TW says 110/12, if so I'm buying one. Another JDM site, and maybe 2 sites was more along the lines of 150/14 or some larger number. Haven't looked in a while, so may have changed, but I'd appreciate if anyone knows for sure. Thanks.

From what I can see, it's should be 12/110. I think the reason u see different line capacity is because JDM and USDM products use different size of line, so the capacity varies(very little tho). If you need more info, you can always look at the sites. Depending on which DM you're buying from, line capacities stated are different. What's more, we all know that line capacity shown in the sites are ±5meters depending on the line's diameters...so..u might get more line capacity from a power pro line vs a daiwa steez line.

Good point. It is listed as 145/12 on Japan Tackle, but it may be the diameter, although the 101 is correct. Bottom line I am getting one soon as first TW sale. Thanks.

12/110 isnt a lot for a 200 size...

I was thinking of one for a swimbait setup. This will cut it too close no?

Depends if ur going for heavy tackle or some light fresh water fishing. For light takle purpose, I highly doubt ull need more than a 100m of line. Unless you're going for some crazy monster, which u probably won't use a 200 size reel, 100m is good enough. Then again, its up to u to decide if ur going to use some heavy bait or not.

This confusion is to do with the ridiculous US line labelling situation. So Bekeley BG 12lb isn't 12lb it's actually 15lb. So I guess the question is do you need the strength and higher diameter of a 15lb line (labelled and sold in the US as 12lb) or do you need a real 12lb line? The 201 has a stated capacity of 180m of .28 mm (0.011 inches) - a good Japanese or German (eg Stroft ABR) copolymer line of this diameter will likely be stronger than 12lb so the 201 would be an excellent reel for open water applications. Back in the day Mark Sosin and Left Krey knocked over some big snook, cubera etc on 10 and 12lb on Ambassadeur 5500 - with the lines of the day you could get maybe 200 yards on a reel. I would think for small swimbaits it would be fine if you are using a 20lb line (labelled and sold as 15lb ](*,) :D ).

Personally, I would wait for the 300 size at least.

I thought at 12/110 it's less than a Z2020 which is quite shallow. Swimbaiters use around 20lb mono for 3-5oz right?
Would mean I need something with a larger capacity.
