What key features define great cranking reels?

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

That reel is much too beautiful to fish. Send it to me, and I'll keep it safe for you, I promise! ;)

I agree that this is the ultimate cranking reel deep or shallow. The silkiest smoothest I have ever owned. 8-)

All I need to do now is upgrade the handle to a 95mm cork knobs and Hedgehog offset clutch.
(Upgrades are not really necessary ... but that is what we do here)

Nope...ultimate would be 200 size or bigger. 100 spool size is not sufficient enough for to cover a large base of size, depth and longer casting distances (read line capacity). ;)

FWIW, my 250 sized CTs always out-cranked my 100s/150s...I have owned the Cold Forged, TE GTs and DCs in these sizes.

I should have specified that I have the 200
