Opinions on reels
Opinions on reels
Hey,
ive been browsing this site from Australia for some time now. but now that im in the market for a new setup i thought i would see what you guys suggest.
the reel i was set on was the daiwa z200h but after ordering it the company told me they didnt have any left in stock and it was a run out model.
so I have turned my attention to the Abu garcia revo premier, or the daiwa t3 1016. both have good reviews in the review archive here. and both are the same price. im also open to suggestions on other reels.
it is to be matched with a gloomis gl2, and again open to suggestions
main target will be big murray cod. but i will also be taking it costal fishing at times etc. it will be my all round rod.
thanks in advance,
Luke

Big Murray Cod and coastal fishing....Z2020/Z200 is my vote from the reels on your list.
Unless you want a round reel option?

Re: Opinions on reels
Yeah, I would probably try to check out the auction sites to find a Z200 or Z2020. Those two models are somewhat more, robust than the Premier or the T3.
Re: Opinions on reels
LPs:
Revo Toro line-up/Na-Cl/Beast (what a tacky name )
Shimano CL 200ASV
Curado 300E/300D
Otherwise, I would rec at least a 200 sized, or a 300 + sized round reel...the new 15 CQ 300/400 or Daiwa Ryoga Schrapnel (might be overkill however depending on the lure weights you are using) would be superb, IMO.
Good luck.

Re: Opinions on reels
If you want a Z you better hurry up. It has been discontinued. Talked to Kazu on jpangler about it, but he cant order one, so Yahoo Japan here I come. Found one and bought it. I have postponed the IS 71HL a bit, because Steez will be available in the future but the Z will be harder and harder to come by. (actually found a 71 for a very cheap price, brand new without a box for 31K yen, yeehaaaaaaaaa) There are available on fleabay every once in awhile but command a pretty high price. 500 USD and up. After holding it and playing with it, I would say it does worth the price of admission. One awesome reel.

Re: Opinions on reels
I can't say enough good things about the Toro series for saltwater fishing. I've used and abused 2 original 50s and a Toro Winch on 50lb halibut, monster lingcod, and chinook salmon in the salt. They refuse to quit and still perform like new the oldest having been through 5 seasons. You just can't beat them for the price.dragon1 wrote:LPs:

I've owned a Z200H and have a Pluton and Luna 300. They are great reels but the Toros are still my favorites.
