gander mountain reels

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

gander mountain reels

These reels look really nice an they are smooth as silk. I was at gander mountains an I played with one but I would like to know if they are any good ?They have a great warranty for one year . Just take it back even if it was your fault an they will replace it .

Have never used one, but I did pay with one on display a few weeks ago. I could give the handle a good turn and let it go and it would free spin for even longer than a Tatula. Didn't mean much, but still impressive.

Many gander reels used to be made by quantum, not sure if that's still the case???

Yea most are made by quantum. I had one before and it was the worst reel I have ever owned. The bail was absolute junk and it lost it's smoothness very quickly. I would stay clear of those. If you're looking to save some money on a reel look at okuma. They make some nice reels for under $100. Shimano spinners in the $50-$100 are also not bad.

Regarding the new Tournament reels & rods with the composite cork knobs & reel seat:

They're made by the same company that makes 13 Fishing / No. 8 Tackle Co.

If these are made by 13 Fishing, I wonder if parts interchange?
