Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

the normal SV wouldn't work?
You just said you wanted a purple spool for your zonda. It is a 'normal SV' spool, a purple one.
hedgehog has them
There ya go.

That one wont fit the Zonda/Alphas/Sol platform. You need an Alphas SV spool. Hedgehog currently has the purple Alphas SV105 spool in stock.

I own both reels and I'd buy another Alphas before a Zonda. The Zonda is refined feeling and looks great, but it's finicky to get dialed in and it's not that great of a caster. The Sv spool in it would be killer but that's another $100 you have to throw at the reel.
The Alphas is smooth, casts great, and not finicky at all. You can buy 2 of them for the price of a Zonda and the sv spool.

My Zonda is superior in every way to my Alphas.

I don't have an Alphas SV. I would rather have a Zonda and add an SV spool. To buy a Zonda has always been more expensive. I have a Rosso red and a Zonda 68. I'm probably going to try an SV spool in at least one of them. I don't know why, but no one has said anything that has made me want to buy an Alphas SV.

I don't know why, but mine is not. I wish it was though.

Isn't the zonda like 2 ounces heavier than the alphas sv?

The numbers I just saw says the Zonda is 6.28 ounces and the Alphas SV is 6.17.

I have SV, Type R, Sol & Zonda and after Ian worked on them I would rate all the same as for as refinement goes. I use a little heavier line on mine Zonda and enjoy the benefits of its spool. If I needed another SV, I would buy the Alpha and spent the extra money on upgrades.

This is what i thought of doing since Zonda isn't available anymore. That or get an Airy Red pixy from ebay? Also thought of getting a shallow SV spool for my Ryoga 1016 and use that for light lures
not sure what i'll be doing yet.

I love my zonda. It's become my favorite reel. Amazing caster right out of the box and feels very solid & refined.
I can only imagine how well it casts after doing a bearing flush or upgrade, let alone being tuned.
I wish I had bought a few more.
Fingers crossed for a 2015 zonda.

Bought an Airy Red Pixy from ebay for $140USD, hopefully it performs well!
