SV 103?

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

The JDM Zillion 1516 TW spool and the J-Dream seem very similar

I already know that the SV spool in my lone Steez is good. Also, I haven't come across any retailers in Japan that have had the PE Long Cast spool for sale. So, I am left with a choice between the IP and SV103 to fill my need.
I love my IP spool. Better than the 100m and stock type-r spool. I use mine a lot for pitching jigs. It's plenty fast enough. Not as fast as say a TD-Z R+, but it does the job just fine. It's also much better at overhand casting than the other two Zillion spools I mentioned.

Thanks. That is about what I expected based on the weight. I've read that several people on TT say they like the IP/J-Dream spool, but they never seem to elaborate on what it is good at. I think I would rather have the larger diameter IP spool because I won't be fishing real light line.

Who else ordered SV103 so far?
Wondering to find out the weight and the size of that SV spool.

Since we're talking OG Zillion spools, which spool is better for pitching 1/2 oz. and up? PE, ize HLC or ip/JD

I'm surprised they brought the SS SV over, as well as the SS air and T3 MX.

I would pay more and buy the exact same reel from Tacklewarehouse  That's a huge price difference man....I would give up the warranty to save that much coin!

Any idea why we can source identical reels from JAPAN for significantly less than the US? Is the warranty really worth that much??

Where did you get your IP spool and what reel do you have it in?

It's no secret they can be had for much cheaper overseas, question is why would TW bring them in?
Do some folks actually pay the extra fee for warranty purposes?

"No secret" as to being cheaper...they just came up last nite after 4:00CDT. So other then the Alphas SV vs 105SV ...these specific 3 reels have no EXACT equal in USDM prior to TW putting them up last night. With that being said.
My thinking is : 1.) Japan economy is coming out of recession slowly and US dollar is stronger right now. 2.) New reels being introduced looks like after first of year as a joint USDM and JDM --- i.e. project T-2016. So Japan needs to move inventory. US market looks like the place to do it. Had they been at TW 3 weeks ago for Black Friday.... At 20% off they could have moved a lot of these. I probably would have pounced on the Alphas Air at $300.

People in the U.S. that know nothing about the JDM market are probably blown away by all the new reels that Daiwa just introduced. :laugh1:

Keep in mind you're comparing US MSRP pricing to JDM discounted pricing. If you look at the MSRP's they aren't much different.

You'll be able to find the US versions on Ebay for pretty close to what you can buy the JDM ones for pretty soon. They just aren't discounted in the US right when they are released. Wait a month...
