50E CORE 50

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

50E CORE 50

Post by goldrod » Tue Sep 08, 2015 8:09 am

I have a 50E but I want a core 50.
Im too far out to look for one really and sometimes i cant even get on the web.
My 50E's ran me about 125 used, and one 135 new but second hand. What do you
think is a far price for a Core 50? I saw one for retail but I've not paid retail in some
time thanks to you guys.

I know I'm probably not gaining nothing going from a 50E to a core50 in terms of performance
but i've just decided i really need one to complete an idea i have.

I have seen the Aldebaran 50MG7's go for around 200-250 at times. If you're not dead set on the dark grey and Core name it's the Same reel. I have Core's and Metanium MG's and I prefer the Metanium's over the Cores.

The Core is a bit smoother feeling in my opinion. Has aluminum gears too but you get the 7 gearing in it where as the CU/CH has brass gears but at 6 gear.

Core 50s in excellent to mint condition will go for $225 -275. I have seen them go for less if the seller is looking for a quick sale. Condition is big for price as is supply and demand. The E series reels are really holding their own in value right now.

Just order the gear set and swap it into your 50E

Id go for swapping the 7.7 gears from the brenious into the 50e. I've always thought brass gears felt better than aluminum. I swap between the 6.4 brass and 7.0 aluminum gears in my scorpion and while the speed and weight savings are nice with the 7.0 set the brass gears are more fluid in my hands.
