Reel Question of the Day

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

Reel Question of the Day

Post by goldrod » Fri Sep 11, 2015 2:19 pm

Px Type R

its a nice little reel but the problem i had with it was finding the right rod to balance out with the reel. What rod
are you currently pairing up with the reel? I've seen people have it in flippin and pitchin setups and some finesse
casting. I have never really found the right setup for the reel so I am reaching out to see what you have yours set up
with. Ian's done the work on mines and when i get back home, i'd like to take her out.

My favorite Pixy rod is a Dobyns 702 that I use for shakey heads. Killer setup and balances great. Great casting combo.

I have my pxl on a dobyns 634cb and love it. I can cast 3/16 cranks a mile with a flip of the waist!

I have 1 on a Phenix Recon 2 - 713 ml and the other is on a Powell Endurance 714 h. Both balance very well.

A 2 power rod of your choice. Some I've used are DX742, X4 Super Mirage, X7 Super Eiger, and NRX 852.

With a flip of the waist? ... are you sure that PX is on a fishing rod?

My PX R is on a custom Phenix UMBX 700L. It balances perfectly, but that's probably got something to do with the fact that the rod was balanced for that reel.
