Daiwa SV105HSL or Steez SV103XSL?
Daiwa SV105HSL or Steez SV103XSL?
I want to add a new 2 power rod combo to fish 1/4 oz and lighter baits in relatively cover less water. I want it to have one of the Daiwa SV spool reels, but I am not sure which would best fit my "wants".
I will be trying to throw tubes, small plugs, jigs, and maybe some unweighted plastics. Nothing is set in stone, as I have not zeroed in on a rod yet, but I do know that I want an SV reel.
Based on price, the Steez should be more refined, but I am more about the casting ability for this reel. Which reel has the best potential for tossing the lightest baits? From what I have read so far, it seems the SV105 would be the front runner, but would it be noticeably better than the Steez? If not, maybe the extra refinement of the Steez would make me happier.
By the way, I have a Pixy Type R and I would hope that both of these reels would potentially cast better than that awesome reel.
Thanks in advance for your input!

SV 105 is the shallow spool, so it will do better for the application you described. You can also get a Steez and stick a 105 spool in it to get the best of the both worlds.

Thanks for the input guys. I decided to go with the Steez SV. I am going to use it this month and then, hopefully I can get the SV105 next month. If I had gotten the SV105, I probably would not have gone for the more expensive Steez, but this way, I know I will get the less expensive SV105 now. Gotta try to get the best tool for the job, right
Actually, if all goes well, I will be hitting the water with a three reel rotation of the Pixy, the Steez, and the SV105 for my sparse cover light lure rods.
We will see how they work and compare.

I don't know if you've purchased it yet, but JLS has that Steez Limited in 8 gear with a 105 SV spool. It's on my to buy list.

Sorry for the hijack
Looking for greater line capacity on my Alphas SV105.
Since you can fit the shallow sv105hsl spool in the steez 103 will will steez spool fit the sv105 reel as well
Thanks, Mick

I believe they have different spool shaft length.mickeyfin wrote:Sorry for the hijack

Alphas has 33mm diameter spool, Steez has 34mm.

Re: Daiwa SV105HSL or Steez SV103XSL?
Does the sv105 have the non-disengaging levelwind like its alphas twin? Does that mean that the level tracks back and forth only when drag is being pulled or during a cast as well? Doesn't this hurt casting distance/light bait casting? Not in the market,y next will most likely be a Steez sv 8.1, just trying to wrap my head around it.

The SV105's level wind does NOT track during a cast, but it does track when drag is being pulled. The SV105 is a badazz little casting demonpoisonokie wrote:Does the sv105 have the non-disengaging levelwind like its alphas twin? If you want an alphas with greater line capacity, buy a Megabass Zonda.mickeyfin wrote:Sorry for the hijack

Shanks, jersey. So how do you keep the drag synchronized? Just pull off line until it's even with the line guide? I'm guessing the purpose of this is to use 1# drag with 4# fluoro on a drop shot or wacky worm? I just want to understand because none of my other reels have that feature and it's making me want an alphas or sv105. Daiwa is evil, lol.uljersey wrote:The SV105's level wind does NOT track during a cast, but it does track when drag is being pulled.
