Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

Daiwa Steez EX tuning

Post by MardukFIN » Thu Nov 26, 2015 1:20 am

I built custom baitcasting ultra light rod for lure weights 1-5g. American Tackle Green Matrix 5'6"UL.
I tried to cast small weights with my Steez. -Failure!
It has original 15g spool loaded with thin braid. It weights about ~20g. I have Hedgehog's Air bfs bearings in it.
Question is, is it enough to change example SLP Works 105SV spool for better results with very light lures?
Original spool handles 10+ grams lures easily, but below that is pain.

With 5 gram lures, your best option is the MB IS Finesse spool. Can't remember if that spool is braid-safe, though.
