Upgrades for the new Fuego

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

Upgrades for the new Fuego

Post by slime king » Sat Jan 30, 2016 11:28 pm

I picked up a new Fuego casting reel yesterday. I plan on using it for a dedicated frog reel (8.1 XS model). Are there any upgrades that are recommended for this reel?. It looks to me like a Tatula without the T wing system.

According to Daiwa Austraila, Tatula spools are a direct swap. Maybe some better bearings, a better drag star, a Tatula clicking CC knob (from Hedgehog Studios), and you can add some colored parts from Hedgehog also.

It does boil down to a Tatula without the Twing. Cosmetic upgrades are far more plentiful than performance.

Here is an interesting spool for it.

I would think I might have trouble with this spool with 65lb braid for frogging. I'll upgrade the bearings and add carbotex washers and see how it performs for a season.

You can always upgrade to the JDM Tatula spool or HLC spool plus the Type R spool. Also that heavily ported spool can also be had in a nonported version.
