Daiwa T3 MX 1016

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

Daiwa T3 MX 1016

Post by dkfreezy » Fri Mar 04, 2016 5:57 am

I was looking into getting one and wanted some personal opinions. Pros and Cons? I intend to use this reel for weightless senkos, chatter baits and 3/8 jigs. Any piece of information would be helpful. TIA!

Just got mine (used but in perfect shape) a month ago and have used it some already. Great reel. Takes a bit of getting used to and dialing in, but it's a terrific little machine.
I use mine for jigs, primarily. It's on a 7' Daiwa Zillion MH rod with 17 lb. Invizx.

I have a T3 MX and a T3 1016. Both reels are outstanding. One could use them just fine for a variety of apps. However I don't like them for resistance baits like spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, cranks etc. I also don't think they are great for lighter baits so I really don't thrown anything below 1/4 oz. I use one for frogs and the other for jigs and plastics.

Get the T3 MX. It is their "cheaper" version but the tolerance on it is much tighter. People do not like the pop up hood, but I love mine :D

My favorite application for my MX is weightless senkos. I feel like the design really excels at allowing the lure to free fall vertically and then just a push of the thumb engages the gear. I love the pop up hood.

It's been mentioned a million times before....but the downside to me is if you tie on a long fluoro leader to your mainline, reeling in a knot through that line guide is near impossible
I just use less length of fluoro leader now

I have the original 1016H, the t3 series reels are a brilliant reel. They can launch a 2" plastic with a 1/16oz jig head like 20m... Saying that it can launch a 3/8oz crankbait miles. As for flipping and Pitching... I haven't tried it on my T3

I dont have the mx but I have two 1016s and I love them.

I use them for frogs, pitching, crankbaits...anything. Their spool is one of the best daiwa spools for lightweight applications
