Re: What Ever Happen To Quantum?
I bought a Tour KVD baitcaster when they came out just to see where Quantum was at. I would have preferred the Exo, but I didn't like the access to the brakes. Anyway, the Tour KVD has been trouble free in light use but otherwise uninspiring. I'd say the TT review was pretty much spot on. Nothing about the reel inspires me to try another.

Re: What Ever Happen To Quantum?
I saw the EXO line of casting reels at Cabelas a few weeks ago on sale for more than 50 percent off - and I still didn't buy one.
That probably speaks volumes about what I think of Quantum.

Re: What Ever Happen To Quantum?
I have fished Quantum reels ever since their Energy reels came out.
I only upgraded to get lighter.
Up until the EXO baitcasters, they were pretty much bulletproof.
The EXO had thumb bar release problems, and their gears got rough after big fish, but I've never had a reel cast as far as my EXO 100. It comes with an 11 gram spool stock.
When the Smoke 100 PT came out, I gave it a try, and now it's my workhorse bait caster. I've fished them hard and they still feel as smooth as the day the first time I cast them.
I bought half a dozen, when they were on sale for $99 at American Legacy, and I wish I had had the money to buy more.

Re: What Ever Happen To Quantum?
My first two quantum reels were back in the 90s and they were the energy metal E7. Both reels had spools that would grind against the rotor at the bottom of it's stroke.
Returned and never bought their product again.
Won a bet that netted me a new cabo 50....kept it for a season.....sold it off.
How can you build a saltwater reel with a crank that flexes....wtf

Re: What Ever Happen To Quantum?
You guys are scaring me. I bought a few quantum spinning reels (kvd tour) from cabelas on sale this spring. Felt better than the newest Stradic to me off the shelf, which I also own.
Re: What Ever Happen To Quantum?
I don't think they were ever considered part of a "big three." I'd consider Shimano, Daiwa and ABU to be the big three. To me, Quantum has always been a second tier manufacturer. They did make an effort to break out of the second tier niche around 2006 with fancier, expanded offerings...Somerdink wrote:At one time you could probably say they where part of the big three Shimano, Daiwa, Quantum
Re: What Ever Happen To Quantum?
Good call SLM. I wasnt really a fan of both until Abu brought out the Revo line of reels. I may buy a exo I see them on sale for 149.99 and see what there like.SLM wrote:I don't think they were ever considered part of a "big three." I'd consider Shimano, Daiwa and ABU to be the big three. Re: What Ever Happen To Quantum?
quantum products will never fly off the shelves.
quantum will also ensure their products "feel good" in the fishing stores....after that.... well, that's a different story.

Their Smoke baitcasters are terrific.
Re: What Ever Happen To Quantum?
All of my spinning reels are Quantum and have been for 20 years. I like them so much, I just ordered another new Smoke. Never have had any problems with them.
