Daiwa Steez 103SHA right side plate broken

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

Daiwa Steez 103SHA right side plate broken

Post by BullBass » Thu Sep 01, 2016 2:16 am

Where the aluminum piece is that that pinion shaft goes in and the cast control knob screws on. Half of it is broke off. Is there anyway to fix this without buying a whole new $144.10 side plate? Or does anyone happen to have a used side plate for one of these laying around? Found what I think is a decent deal on this reel just needs that part fixed or replaced. Thanks

Do they have the piece that broke off? With the right epoxy you should be able to put it back together, especially if the cast control cap is going to be covering it.

I can ask but I doubt it. Then I also wondered if the cap would still thread on with only half the threads available on the side plate. Its a deal breaker for sure because I could just buy a used one in better shape for cheaper. And Ive always wanted a Steez

Unfortunately the side plate will need replacing. That seems awful high for the side plate though as the frame is only $120ish

That's the price that showed up at Southwestern Parts and Service website which is the largest parts dealer in my area. I guess I could call Daiwa and ask. But considering I paid $45 for my last t-wing guide on my Tatula from them I figured that price was right on a Steez. Where did you get the price from?

We are an Authorized Daiwa Warranty and Repair Center. That's MSRP on the side plate.

Give us a call and we can get you fixed up.

Even if the sideplate is $75 with all the other stuff the reel needs I think im still in the ballpark of close to $300 on a used Steez that I would have to re assemble anyways. Thanks for the info guys I'll probably pass on this one.

It was on Ebay. Hard to say what was all needed as it was kind of disassembled in the pictures. Definitely needed a new crank side plate though. The guy was selling the spool and handle separately also.

A few small misc parts and he also had the handle assembly and spool assembly separate. Just wasn't worth it. Ive seen them on ebay in good contion and complete for cheaper than what it would have cost me to rebuild that one. I was hoping I could score it on the cheap though. Just didnt happen.
