TD-Z 103ML Type R+

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

TD-Z 103ML Type R+

Post by tacklejunkie2 » Fri Nov 18, 2016 12:27 am

I recently acquired a very nice used TD-Z Type R+ (5.7:1 gear ratio) and I need some input on what technique I should use it for. I haven't decided yet if I'm going to leave the reel stock or modify it. For those of you who own this reel, please provide your suggestions on what you use yours for and what does this reel do best?

Anything you want to cast far. The R+ spool flat out sings.

As is - cranks, spinnerbaits, jerkbaits. Or TackleTrap sells a 7.1 gear set that you can put in there and open up a lot more techniques (anything bottom contact, etc.).

Anything you want to slow roll on occasion. I love mine for Keitechs and Chatterbaits.

You can always use it for Ned rigging. The slower ratio helps to keep the bait down low when employing a swimming retrieve.
