Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

Reel for weightless Senkos and Flukes

Post by rgbtr196le » Thu Dec 29, 2016 10:26 pm

Hello all. Wondering what Daiwa reel you would recommend for throwing weighless senkos and flukes? Would like something in the 7.0:1 gear ratio to pick up line quickly. Thank you.

I haven't used it yet, so this is not a report from experience, but I just bought a Daiwa SV105 for those very techniques. It's a beautiful little reel, small and light and super solid. Unless I am very surprised I think I will love it. It balances perfectly with a G. Loomis GLX.

Steez or Pixy/Alphas variant would be nice.

Steez or Alpha, I like the SV spools. I use braid, sometimes with leader, but mostly without.

103 - zillion frame with sv
105 - alphas frame with sv

What sizes are you planning to throw? And what rod are you pairing the reel with?

4" Senko's and flukes - Alphas SV
5" Senko's - Anything will work well. They are pretty heavy. I use an OG Steez 103 with an SV105 spool currently.

Daiwa SV105 will throw a 3" to 7" senko easily. The only worry is the inductor getting stuck outward due to poor fit of the pieces that guide the inductor on the spool shaft.

I have been using my Airy Red Pixzilla for a couple of years now for those techniques. I really like it.

I think he's referring to the SS Jdm closeout at TW. Just get yourself an Alphas SV from a reputable Jdm dealer such as Japan Lure Shop. 200 bucks and you'll have the reel within a week. At that price it's a steal for the performance you get.

SV105 or Alphas SV. The SV 105 spool is nice. Even the 103 can do the trick. I've use several T3''s with SV spools plugged in. Casting machines.

My Steez SV103XS (8.1 ratio) is an inspiring reel for the Senko and Flukes. Pair it with a lightweight rod build and you won't want to put it down.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I will be throwing 4 & 5 inch senkos, and flukes on this reel.
