Is there any difference in spools between Metanium MGL, Chronarch MGL or Casistas MGL

At Shimano website the spool looks identical for all three reel.



And if the spool and braking system is identical, does it mean the reels would cast also almost same?

Yes, I'm talking about JDM version only.
Looks like capacity for
Metanium is 12-100、14-90、16-80、20-65
Casitas 12-120、14-100、16-85
Chronarch 12-130、14-110、16-100

Spool sizes are all slightly different but the braking system is essentially the same. Casting performance is very consistent between all three reels.

Seems to be just the Chronarch. I don't own the Met MGL, but have a few friends that do and they regularly fish saltwater and have had no problems with it.

So i purchased this reel myself and actually tested it in saltwater. Its been holding up pretty good with just a freshwater rinse after every trip. Don't know why Shimano says no salt. My spool has not corroded yet, I also did own the ci4 at one point so I have a slight idea of how fast the spool would corrode and Shimano did send me two more spools from the corrosion so the chronarch mgl does seem salt ready. The JDM chronarch mgl does say it is salt ready so I do not know why the usdm would he any different. To me it is salt fine but that is just my opinion. Have to use it for a longer period of time to actually see if anything happens. I did open it up and service and get it ready for the salt prior to use though just a thought to keep in mind.

Not a fan of ported sides on spools for saltwater use, especially with braid which holds water. Makes it easy for saltwater to migrate to the spool shaft and hence bearings. Will be interested to see how these reels hold up over time when used in saltwater.

I looks like shimano is moving away from the style brakes they put on the curado i and citica i. Idk what other reels they stuck them on...

The Metanium mgl spool has a bearing on the spool itself (silent tune). The chronarch mgl spool looks the same but doesn't have the bearing on it.

How is your reel /spool holding up in the salt?
