All they'd need is a lighter spool.jig61 wrote:$300 or less I'm sticking with my lews. The only reason I really get away from lews is for bfs stuff or more refined round reels(conquest), lews is a really great value the team lite and pro magnesium are amazing reels and look very nice also.
I would really like to see lews come out with something to compete with the $400-500 market but I'm not counting on it, they have a great thing going with their current lineup.

For all around Metanium MGL.
Re: One TOTALLY STOCK reel to rule them all
All the Korean oems make reels with light and shallow spools but companies in the US market ordering their reels purposely order them with deep, heavy spools. Look at Okuma and Tail Walk reels. They're both Banax reels but the Tail Walks have been ordered with shallow spools because they are targeting the Japanese market. As the desire to cast 1/4 and under on BC gear increases in the US is it possible, even likely, that Lews will offer a reel with a light and shallow spool along the lines of a Tatula CT or Curado 70 weight range. Doyo has a shallow spool for the last gen Lews LFS but I don't know how you would order one from them.jig61 wrote:$300 or less I'm sticking with my lews. Yep, I'm completely happy with every Lews reel I have I just wish they would do something out of the ordinary for them.

If it has to be $300 MSRP or under I'm going with the SV103 as well. If it can get over $300 it's still my Metanium MGL.

SV 103 or Met MGL (about $300ish ordered from Japan). Those would be my picks
Re: One TOTALLY STOCK reel to rule them all
The SV103 gets my vote. Amazing reel right out of the box.

Early in the poll here ... but based off the other thread and this one it's funny how much love the SV103 gets for a reel that supposedly didn't sell well.

Let's make it under $300, so we can see what affordable reels folks choose.
I read so much here about how guys modify their reels after they get them that I was wondering which reel they'd choose if they couldn't modify anything.
I'm looking for their one workhorse reel that can do everything.
MSRP $300 max, CURRENT PRODUCTION - Zillion SV TW, also awesome, Chronarch MGL.
MSRP $200 max, CURRENT PRODUCTION - Tatula SV, also awesome, Curado 70.

If it were within his 5 year criteria I'd have to agree with you.fishingandfords wrote:Like the D7jpd0144 wrote:Early in the poll here ... but based off the other thread and this one it's funny how much love the SV103 gets for a reel that supposedly didn't sell well.
One of the greatest Shimano has ever turned out IMO.
Re: One TOTALLY STOCK reel to rule them all
Is BFS still a criteria? Even if not the SV103, Alphas SV, Zillion SV, Tatula SV and Curado 70 are still top picks.

Yes it is.LowRange wrote:Is BFS still a criteria? Even if not the SV103, Alphas SV, Zillion SV, Tatula SV and Curado 70 are still top picks.
The reason I asked is, when I sent my Chronarch MG 50's in to Ian Shields for service after 10 years, I needed a reel to throw my Orbit 80 jerkbaits and my drop shot on, so I put a Quantum Smoke Burner reel, a reel I use for frogs, onto that rod, with 8lb fluoro, and it cast that 5/16 oz jerbait and the 1/8 oz drop shot just fine.
So I wondered which other totally stock reels out there could cover that same range.
I just said 5 years because I had to put a limit, I thought.
But maybe older is okay, too, since a good reel is a good reel.
