One TOTALLY STOCK reel to rule them all

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

One TOTALLY STOCK reel to rule them all

Post by mark poulson » Wed Apr 19, 2017 11:14 pm

Okay, I should have known better than to ask a bunch of gear heads to pick a reel without any restrictions, so I'm reposting the question, but this time the reel need to be totally stock, off the shelf, NIB,other than clean and reoil/relube.
And it has to be a bait caster, and under $300.
New in box, available new today or within the last five years.
I read so much here about how guys modify their reels after they get them that I was wondering which reel they'd choose if they couldn't modify anything.
I'm looking for their one workhorse reel that can do everything.

You are tough!

Let's make it under $300, so we can see what affordable reels folks choose.

If you could raise the bar until $400, I would recommend 15 Conquest 200/201HG.

Alright, here's my laser focused on these parameters:

MSRP $300 max, CURRENT PRODUCTION - Zillion SV TW, also awesome, Chronarch MGL.
MSRP $200 max, CURRENT PRODUCTION - Tatula SV, also awesome, Curado 70.

$300 or less I'm sticking with my lews. The only reason I really get away from lews is for bfs stuff or more refined round reels(conquest), lews is a really great value the team lite and pro magnesium are amazing reels and look very nice also.

I would really like to see lews come out with something to compete with the $400-500 market but I'm not counting on it, they have a great thing going with their current lineup.
