Shimano 2017 Icast rumor mill ...

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

Wow, Shimano starts coming out new Curado model every year now?
2014 - G series, piece of cr*p
2015 - I series, better version of cr*p
2016 - 70 series, tried to recover Curado name
2017 - ???

Shimano needs to bring back the 50E which is still the King of the Hill for Curado/Chronarch models.

I've been a hardcore Shimano user/fanboy since I bought my first one in 1992 (tomato red) Curado. I'm still a big Shimano fan but have been disappointed since they decided to make a business decision to shift their Curado/Citica facility from Japan to Malaysia. A lot of my fishing buddies already bailed to other brands since 2014. I'm still using Shimano cuz I have a large collection of their awesome reels. The only new Shimano reels worth buying for me now are Metanium and Aldebaran but these are in $400s range.
My old greenies are still kicking like a champ.
I even heard few people saying that Shimano intentionally does that so people keep buying their new models on a yearly basis.

G series was introduced in 2011. They come out with new models about every 3 yrs. And technically the 70 isn't a new "version" just a smaller sized 200i. My 200i has been phenomenal. The only one that outcasts it is my Citica D.

I disagree,
The Curado/Chronarch line up is better than ever. The Metanium i was less impressed with after fishing the new Curado 70xg and Chronarch mgl. IMO i see no need for the Metanium and the Aldebaran and on a performance level they perform relatively the same as the 70xg and the Ch mgl. Plus they can get banged around and not have to worry about resale value. Besides most(not all)who buy Japanese made reels end putting their reels on Chinese rods :?

Its all good though to each their own

Any new info on a inshore reel [-o< ? or is it just going to be that the new Curado will be salt safe ?

Please let it be this! I'll take either platform with brass microgear!

A brass micro gear Scorpion 70 already exists. It's called the Engetsu PG if you're interested.

Chronarch 70 would be redundant. I doubt they will MGL spool the 70 this year as it was just released a year ago.
I don't think it would be redundant at all.

+1

Mind you I love my G series, selling my Chronarch E, never thought squat of the I or the 70 series...
Have the 300 E but that's bomb proof and honestly can't be matched for quiet a few reasons.

I've fallen off the care factor train for a lot of new models for the constant yearly and now what seems half yearly model updates... When you've got a 2016 catalogue, and in June another comes out 2016/2017... And the 2017 is expected any time now half way through this year?

Lost and thoroughly over new product releases in such volumes which is confusing to home business repairer's, consumers and dealers / parts service agencies...
