Shimano 2017 Icast rumor mill ...

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

I like it! its definitely an upgrade in looks. Im not worried about an MGL spool if they actually lightened it vs the current one. Its sure to have the new brakes.

Presuming that the micro gears are brass and they keep a lower 5.x ratio, should be a pretty sweet cranking reel.

if they have a cranking reel, I might sell my 200iPG and swap it out for one of these new ones.

I have no issues with the brakes but everyone says the newer braking system is way better????/

Looks pretty sick. the black is a nice new direction that I would never guess that would use for a curado series.

Really surprised they didn't go with the MGL technology for this reel. If this Curado matches to that spec sheet going around, it will be one tank of a reel. Looked pretty heavy from those specs, assuming its from more stout aluminum that the previous, lighter 200I version.

Might not need MGL to out class the Tatula SV (seemingly closest competitor), I have seen a ton of reviews now stating how overbraked the Tatula SV's are...

The new sustain looks like it's going to be good to!

I really hope they keep the SVS on the bottom like the Curado I and the Met MGL. I'm having a hard time with it on the side like the past two CH's and the 70.

I received the new Bass Times with the Curado ad and it looks like dial is on the top. Also, maybe I am seeing things but it looks like the spool is dark green.

So... being a 95% Shimano owner and looking for another 150/200 size reel with what we know now how do you think the new Curado will fair head to head with the Tat CT Type R? I'm using the reels for Salmon and durability is key, (I just bought a Met. MGL XG and it's pretty sweet although not quite as smooth as my Met 13?) my Curado i has done ok so far but I'm afraid to work it to hard!!! (I usually reach for a "D" series when I move up to 12-15lb line) I'm already on my second set of gears with the 201i HG and I think it needs to find another home, been looking at a Type R and waiting on I-cast news like everyone else, problem with that is my season is 75% over by then...

Thanks, Kurt

If the specs I have read appear correct, the new Curado will be a tank. That being said, the Tatula CT R is similar, having an aluminum frame and composite sideplates. The Curado should have 4 bearings total on the spool/pinion, the CT-R has 3. The Tatula will have one bearing per knob and the Curado probably won't have them. The Micro gears should be great for durability and power.
I am starting to think I don't fish enough to really harm equipment. I have an SS/SV that feels great, 2 Revo spinning reels (over $200) that feel awesome, and a Stradic Ci4+ that feels box new (caught thousands of fish), so my final opinion is YES to either one. I feel with proper maintenance and care they will either one be great.

Is the handle sideplate aluminum for the MM gears? Im assuming no since the Chronarch MGL is all composite and the info on that spec sheet?

This was a Sustain picture from google. There were better ones earlier, seems they have been removed.

That link takes forever.

Searched around and found a few pics of what seems to be yet another parts bin - sigh. Is innovation dead for 2017??
